Hi,

Can anyone help answer this question?

Can a PR be eligible for the Nexus card if his/her country of citizenship is Iran or a similar country that does not have a visa waver program with the US?

There seems to be mixed messages on this topic. Some people say it's possible and some say it isn't. Has any PRs actually applied and been approved while their passport is from a country like Iran, India, Egypt, etc.?

Thanks

Hi,

I can confirm about the approval/issue of a NEXUS card for Indian passport holder who has Canadian PR

To be eligible for NEXUS membership, the applicant must be either a citizen/PR of the US or Canada.... if you are applying as a Canadian PR then you should have resided for 3 years, in Canada, before applying.... and also be admissible to both countries.

Both the US and Canada must approve the application.... if either country denies the application then it will not go through for NEXUS.

Applicants are then screened for immigration status, checked for criminal records on RCMP, CSIS, United Nations, FBI, Interpol, and also the UK Police.

After the security clearances, etc are received, the applicant has to go through interviews with both CBSA and the US Customs and Border Protection.... these two interviews are held on the same date/time, consecutively.... at a NEXUS center.

Hopefully other members will be able to give information about NEXUS for Iran/Egypt passport holders

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the information. I have a question on "if you are applying as a Canadian PR then you should have resided for 3 years, in Canada, before applying". Is the requirement for residing in Canada as a PR for 3 years or residing in either US / Canada for 3 years, regardless of PR?

If you're applying for NEXUS as a Canadian PR then you should have resided in Canada (not in the US) for 3 years before applying

Also your 3 years in Canada could be, for example, as a Canada WP (but you're now applying as a PR).....or 3 years as a Canadian PR

Very informative, thank you! I guess the best option to travel to US once we move to Canada would be to apply for a B1/B2 visa

Thanks for the info. That seems to be the case. Some people gave me wrong information and said the 3 year residency requirement is no longer required. However, I realized that is only the case for citizens and only a few PRs. O well, here goes $60.

Hey mamad2020 did your application get approved for Nexus ?

I went for interview and got denied and the reason is that I have an Egyptian passport. As many the requirement don't make that clear, it only says 3 years and PR which applies to me.

I also appealed their decision but didn't get any replies yet. I'm a Canadian now and I will try applying with the Canadian passport.

Anyone with the same experience ?
