Three years ago Stephen Harper used the immigration backlog, which he made worse, as an excuse to give the Citizenship and Immigration Minister sweeping discretionary powers to reject whole categories of immigrants. The Conservatives first use of these new powers was to cut the list of eligible skilled worker occupations and they have now decided to further shut the door on immigrants by limiting the number of new skilled worker applications they will accept to 20,000 per year. Despite picking and choosing narrow categories of skilled workers to fast-track processing at the expense of people hoping to be reunited with their families, the overall backlog continues to grow. More than one million applications were awaiting a decision as of December 31, 2010.

The Conservatives also claim that they have reduced Skilled Worker wait times from 5 years to 1 year and quickly cut wait times for parents and grandparents. In 2008 the Conservatives simply decided to pretend the existing backlog did not exist. They created the “working inventory” of post 2008 applications and processed those as a priority while leaving the hundreds of thousands of skilled workers already in line in limbo and unreported in the wait time statistics.

Good humor....even brings smile in tensed face... Wish they could even be able to specify that someone gonna get it in next 25 years (with certainty...)then at least someone could plan life accordingly!!!! Yes its possibly one of the reason for many of us to try to move to Canada is to have some peace in later part of live if we can....

hi fariza,by that time, when our file goes for final eligibility review, we would get 0 points for age :)
