Newcomers can only get a G1 driver's license in Ontario?

1. For Ontario, you need the driving experience letter, see http://www.drivetest.ca/EN/licencing/Pages/Out-of-Country-Drivers.aspx if you want to claim more than 12 months of experience. If you only want to claim 12 months experience and your foreign license was issued more than 12 months ago, you would be able to take the basic road test and get a G2 license. Then wait 2 years and then take an advanced road test and get a full license, see http://www.ontario.ca/driving-and-roads/exchange-foreign-drivers-licence

2. I have seen somewhere although I can't find the link at the moment that if you enter the GDL system by taking the written exam without claiming foreign license and driving experience, you can not bring a letter later.

If it was from the US or some other country that has an exchange agreement with Ontario, you could exchange without taking a test but because it's not, you have to pass the written test and road test.

Hi leon many thanks for ur endless assistance, currently I have the driving license from Dubai but without the letter, my driving license is written in english and it shows the issuance date on it,so can i just apply to G2 with my d/l only no letter.

the link u gave for d/l manual is great but requires paid subscription ....i appreciate if u got a free download manual ....many thanks to u leon.

For G1 test means signs and rules .. Practice all questions on www.apnatoronto.com or icandrive.ca but the thing is that for exemption of G2 u require a letter from RTO which is a job of only 10 mins... U can give it a try with ur original DL if they accept..

I am in toronto now, unfortunately I forgot to bring the d/l experience letter,however I just scanned my original UAE d/l and sent it to my brother in UAE and asked him to order that letter,but u think they will accept a scanned copy of the original, as if my brother sends it to me by post it will take some time...

Send him a original letter of authorization also that he can collect the lesson bayanat [ EXP. Letter ] on your behalf stating ur and his Emirated ID no. on the letter .. This will help.. I hope
