thanks for the story Sanchester. Here's mine:
I had scheduled a 6 week leave to spend with my fiance at the time and before the time came I ended the relationship. I was not able to change the leave at work and was forced to take it. I was so depressed and fearful that I would spend the whole time crying about my ex when my dr. suggested I take a vacation to cheer myself up (since it was middle of winter). My friend had been begging me to go to Jamaica so I booked 2 weeks. I planned to hang out with a Jamaican friend for the 1st week and my other friend would join us for the 2nd week. On the first day she arrived we were shopping for groceries and her feet were blistered so she could barely walk. This taxi stopped on the road and asked if we wanted a ride. I negotiated the price then asked him to stop so we could get some food for dinner (I always negotiate the price then ask for all the stops lol). The guy kept commenting how he liked me and yadda yadda yadda (you know how it goes....they all love you when you first meet lol). When we stopped for food we told him to join us for a drink while we waited. Now, he kept telling my friend that he liked me and all. I just laughed and joked with him cuz I wasn't falling for it. My friend and I always have trouble getting a taxi to pick us up at our condo so I thought it made sense to get his # so he could come pick us up during our stay. I asked for his # and when he gave it to me he said "now, that ain't just a souvenir you know". I didn't pay this any mind but he reminded me about this later. We called him the next day to take us to the local evening beach party and he didn't seem that interested and his price was way too high (I figured he didn't remember me and was not that interested) but we came to an agreement and he picked us up. When he dropped us he decided to stay with us and never left my side...or should I say my backside lol. During the week he gave us a few rides and we invited him for drinks at our condo. He kept telling me how much he liked me and was looking for a serious relationship etc but I told him I was just looking for fun and just ended a relationship. We left at the end of the week and exchanged #s but no talk of anything more than friends.
A few months later my friend wanted to visit her friend in Jamaica and asked if I would come along. I had spoke with my hubby a few times over the months and since I didn't want to be alone, I asked if he wanted to hang out when I visit. He almost didn't make it to the airport when we arrived but we waited...2 drinks later he arrived. And that was definitely fate for both of us cuz the next week was a blur. My head was so far in the clouds and I have never been so taken with a man before. We talked sooo much during the week and got to know each other so well that I just knew it. He even introduced me to his mom before the end of the visit. I just can't describe it. My friend was stunned that I was so open to this guy considering my usual nature. It was hard parting after this visit but I needed to get my head on straight and be sure about everything. He told me his b-day was next month and as soon as I got home I checked out airfare prices. I ended up coming back for his b-day and we had a fab time. I met the rest of his family and he proposed at the family dinner. He even got down on one knee! We got married 3 months later (he planned everything) and my family joined us.
We always talk about "what if" he hadn't stopped that day (cuz he drives route taxi, not tourists) and considered ourselves blessed not lucky to have met. We just wish it would have been a lot sooner.
...sorry it was longer than I expected.
