Anyways, I'm not one to argue with culture.. But I did come across that, hindus believe and encourage marrying cousins.

LOL...I agree its pretty akward. But curiousity got the better of me...so I was being a bit nosey!! I think it is allowed in Canada, but I don't really think it should be. Medically speaking thats not super safe for the children and if it happens to often...thats to many of the same genes in the family line. I don't really want to call it gross and offend her culture...but I have to be honest and that is something that seems just so very very wrong to me!! Its like even uncomfortable to think about!

I dunno I could NEVER EVER marry any of my cousins...and I'm adopted so I'm not even blood related to my family. AND I STILL COULDNT MARRY ANY OF MY COUSINS...its just gross to me. Even my third cousins are as family to me as my first cousins. I don't care if your first, second, third or fourth cousins. If your family...we ain't going there lol!!

However she seems like a nice person, so I guess if its culturally accepted in her culture and shes ok with it, thats what counts. Its just a really uncomfortable concept for me!! Family means everything to me...and in your average Canadian mindset...that is just not something we would do!

My husband is a canadian citizen, and after almost 2 years of courtship we got married in Jan 2011 in India. Actually, our dads are first cousins, and our families have known each other forvever. And when we were kids, in 1992-93 our families lived at Saudi Arabia (around 200 kms apart) and and we would meet sometimes. However, my husband shifted to canada in 1994, and we were never in touch after that. In 2009, his aunt saw me at a social gathering and ours was hence an arranged cum love marriage. My questions are:

a) Do I include our childhood association or do I only mention our history from the time his aunt arranged our match?
b) How many years of foreign travel history do I need to include on the 'SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION FORM - DELHI'. I have travelled every year to Saudia right from 1985 to 2002, and again from 2009-2010.
c) My husband had to leave for canada after 13 days of marriage, but he is visiting again in May 2011. Is it ok to go ahead with gathering information to send for processing or do we wait till he visits me again. Will that increase our chances of proving our relationship is 'continuing', or are we taking a risk by filing so early.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. How can immigration let married cousins go through and their Aunt arranged the marriage!? Obviously the fact that there is a question on the form that asks if you are related to your spouse... this is a regular occurance?!

I looked it up a bit...just out of curiosity...and I didn't find out all the specifics but some countries...and I'm not talking countries with arranged marriages, I'm talking countries in Europe that are as modern and uptodate as we ( Sweden I think is one of them), even allow you to marry half siblings. Now that is something I'm not even going to try to culturally accept...siblings is just crossing a serious line for me. I know of a set of first cousins in BC that are married, don't know them personally but they are related to a very disgusted former co worker of mine.

I know immigration allows this, because many countries find this culturally acceptable. As far as arranged marriages, immigration has a tough job on that one because its still a common practice in many countries and its common enough to be a question on the papers! Was your marriage arranged! And if this particular lady ended up loving her husband and its a real marriage...cousins or not...what can immigration do. They'd have to let them through because legally they have to be culturally sensative!

Just an interesting point...some of you may know what I'm talking about. I read something last year..can't remember where...about a community in Clarendon I believe that is quite isolated and they apparently have a serious imbreeding problem..amoung other things. Now with all the anti gay batty man stuff...and the strong opinions Jamaicans have on anything they consider taboo...I would have thought for sure imbreeding would NOT be something you would find in Jamaica!!! But apparently this particular community is like isolated and a lil world all to it's self and you got imbreeding cousins and siblings and the whole nine yards!! I couldnt believe it when I read it...I was like whaaat...this can't be right!!

mylilangel : Ebonyshine recently got her CAIPS notes back which indicated an email was sent to PSPAN in January requesting her medical. We googled pspan and found this website:

bahahhaaa.. my ghetto ass genogram! please lonley took some need time and energy in that one! God love her! All this inbreeding chat got me laughing.. I have about 700 people on my moms side of the family, it was a running joke for me and my cousins that when we met random members of the opposite sex, we needed to do a genogram to ensure there was no possible way we were related!

lol irving... i can't see your genogram lol so i can't comment hahahaha but ill tell you my secret i use a program called genopro hahahahahaha its very user friendly hahahahaha then i copy and pasted it in word to save it as a picture so that i can post it in photobucket lol hahahahaha took me about 10 mins or so lol... but i must say that its a program I am very familiar with cause i use it at work all the time and also for school at times i use it... it works wonders... I could of also put the type of relation which to me is pretty much incest between the cousins but i decided to refrain myself of doing such a thing...

700ppl in your moms fam... wow girl... i wouldnt want to do that genogram that would be hell hahahaha
