Hi everyone!
Been following the forum from some time but new to posting.
I am a Canadian and will be sponsoring my husband in Accra after our marriage in January. We were wondering if it will be okay to apply straight away after getting married or does that look bad in CIC's eyes? We have fb , viber, skype, whatsapp, call history recipts and picturesfrom my first visist etc,we met in ghana about a year ago. Is there any tips or suggestions anyone can offer us? Thanks so much. We have been seeing many of you getting approved so quickly so we are praying for the same

You can apply right after you get married as long as you have the marriage certificate and all documents ready!

Good luck with the application!

There is no waiting time requested, but it kinda depends on your relationship timeline. If you've known each other for a short time, had a short relationship/courtship (a few months), if you haven't lived together for more than a few days at a time in short visits, if you don't have a ceremony or a honeymoon - you might seem in a hurry and your file may be red-flagged. That doesn't mean that your husbands' application will be refused, just that it may take a longer time and he will surely need to go through an interview.

Me and my husband had 1 and a half years of relationship before we got married, with almost one year of living together, and we still waited for more than 6 months after the wedding to send in the application.

thank you Betina, we have known each other for about 6 years and even though we do not have our chats logs from then we always made references to that in our emails etc, we talked on and off because we were just chat buddies, untill August 2012 when we hooked up again and stated Chating , so I have our chat logs from that time till now. I went to Ghana around march 2013, and stayed with him for a month, we have been talking on viber since then , there's no single day we do not chat or talk, so it a year after hooking up again. We have so much to send etc , my family and his family are aware of our relationship and my
Mom might come with me to Ghana . Though she's yet to decide , is it a big deal if she doesn't? We will make sure to have honeymoon , weddin reception etc. any more suggestion is welcome . Thx ones again

It's best to have at least one close family member at the wedding, unless it's impossible for every one of them to be there (they are not able to travel, are deceased etc). It doesn't look good for him to marry you without meeting anyone from your family.

they speak to him on phone etc but they can't travel to Ghana , my mom may go, not sure yet as she's still thinking about it. If she doesn't I can get them to write letters to testify etc. that may be the only issue because we have lots of proofs , we wil get married and apply right away . Still gathering our chats . Taking some out coz it too many. We will start printing it all together and get the application done together . Any suggestions and comments are still welcomed , god bless you

Hello jmc and do not worry if no one from your side can attend the wedding, simply explain the reasoning. CIC is used to seeing this as so many of us have to get married in our spouses country as they are unable to receive TRVs to travel to us. The costs and logistics are often prohibitive and even the bride and groom have to get back to work to pay for immigration expenses!! So that also impacts scheduling of weddings as well as often no time for honeymoons :(.

Many people are now having friends and family attend by SKYPE or other types of video conferencing options. See what is available in your hubby's country for this, it is well worth it. Take photos, one set for immigration and another for personal keeping and ensure you write on the back who the people are and how they are related or connected to your celebration.

Do a really good job on the application and have it prepared ahead of time to take with you so your husband can sign the forms he needs to. Then when you return, you can submit all of the wedding and trip details and have it ready to go. I submitted ours one month after we were married and I spent a lot of time making sure it was organized and easy to read and follow. Familiarize yourself with all of the forms now and the country-specific guide and the main application guides - one for sponsor (you) and one for applicant (hubby). It will pay off, I had to read them about 10 times to make sure I was following the rules, they can be confusing.

Letters, handwritten by family and friends are good as well. You mentioned you had to take out some of your chats due to the volume of material and if you are going to do that, try to send samples of some from every week or month over the course of your time together and explain that as well. The fact that you have known each other for years before dating is important as well. Many people do a cover letter of sorts to tell their relationship "story". Blessings for your wedding and a smooth immigration journey in 2014. :D
