Hello guys,

I am new to the whole Canadian immigration policy, so I am seeking helps and advice to assist me with my application. I wish to be assessed under NOC code 2281 (Computer network technician), therefore, there will be many questions that I need to clarity. Currently, I am living in Australia and hope to have an opportunity to move to Canada as there are many interesting things I like about the country.

Firstly, I decided to choose the University of Toronto to assess my skill as their processing time is only 10 weeks compared to ICAS with the processing time of 25 weeks. Would you suggest other assessing authority?

Secondly, I have contacted my high school (secondary school) back in my hometown (Cambodia) in regards to sending my transcripts to UT, however, they refused to do so. What should I do about that?
I think Australian institutions will have no problem in sending my transcripts to UT.

Thirdly, the use of English in Canada and Australia for application forms are quite different which confuses me a lot. What do they mean by What is your intended occupation in Canada? Which academic credentials do you intend to submit for your application to immigrate to Canada? My answers are Computer Network Technician to both questions.

Lastly, How long do you normally wait to receive an invitation after express entry submission? I have a total of 67 points. Am I likely to be invited?

below is my current status:
IELTS: L:8 W:7 R:6.5 S:7.5
Work experience: Over 2 years in IT industry
Age: Turning 27
Education: BS degree

Thank you in advance.

http://www.wes.org/ca/eca/ takes 20 business days upon receipt of all documents.

No need to have secondary education assessed if you have completed higher education.

I think Australian institutions will have no problem in sending my transcripts to UT.

Correct to the first, your BS degree in the second.

67 points is relevant to eligibility, not in receiving an invitation.
Instead, check here, and I think it's safe for you to enter a bachelor's degree: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp
The draw last week was at 470 points. The draw scores have never gone below 450 since the launch of Express Entry. If you need more points to guarantee an ITA, you can apply for a provincial nomination to add 600 points.

And you won't be able to create an eligible Express Entry profile until you have your ECA.

Those are the basics! I hope you take the time to read around the forum and the IRCC website as well to get a good understanding of the whole process.

Step by step summary of Express Entry with links to the IRCC website for more info: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/express-entry-step-by-step-instructions-t273928.0.html

Hello bellaluna,

Thank you so much for your detailed information. Comprehensive Ranking System is definitely not for me as I have less than 400 points. Any more useful information regarding Canadian immigration would much be appreciated. Once again, thank you.

Hi bellaluna,

I have one more question. How do immigration department verify my work experience letter? My ex-boss is happy to produce me a letter but if the department choose to call him to clarify that will be a problem. First, he does not speak English. Secondly, he may not remember a lot about me which could cause some confusion. What would you advise regarding this? Thanks.

Your CRS is below 400 because of your IELTS results you need at least CLB 9 in your scores (preferably CLB 10 if possible), You need to check these scores on CIC website (I think its LRWS: 8777 in IELTS). This would bring up your CRS to 429 - 441 points,

However, the lowest cut-off mark so far has been 450, so you might need to do some additional things to boost your score. Like a provincial nomination, which could give you an extra 600 points. OR find an appropriate job in Canada, which also gives 600 points OR you may want to consider getting a masters degree (if possible) this could bring your score to 469-481 points. Any one of these would surely increas your chance of ITA.

Hope this helps

Don't worry too much about this, its not very common for CIC to contact employers, however if they do, your ex-boss would just need someone in the office to translate the conversation to English for him. Also ask your Ex-boss to keep a copy of the reference letter he made for you, (at least saved on his computer) so he can easily verify ay information he is asked about.

Thanks Lizzybob,

I will look into that further. Do you know a link to invitation round for Express Entry (100 points base system not Comprehensive Ranking System)? I just want to know if anyone was invited with 67 points. Thanks again

People aren't selected based on the 100 point ranking system. They are selected based on the 1200 point system. Yes - you need to have 67 points or more to qualify. But whether you are actually selected depends on how many points you have out of 1200. So far no one with fewer than 450 points has been selected under FSW / Express Entry.

Thanks Scylla,

It is very confusing. I thought both systems are different and processed differently. More info regarding that would be appreciated.
I have Certificate 3, certificate 4, 2 diploma certificates which took me 1.5 year to complete.
I also have 1 Associate Degree which took me 1.5 year to complete and then I spent 1 more year at University to complete my Bachelor of Science Major Internetworking and Security.

Which of the following should I choose:
Bachelor's degree OR a three or more year program at a university, college, trade or technical school, or other institute.
OR
Two or more certificates, diplomas, or degrees. One must be for a program of three or more years.

Everyone's help is appreciated

You have to consider both at the same time:
100 point system = Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) immigration stream = eligibility scoring
1200 point system = Comprehensive Ranking System = selection ranking

The CRS is the selection/ranking process for Canada's economic immigration streams, including FSW, Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades, and Provincial Nomination Program.

Whether you like it or not, you have to depend on the CRS scores if you are applying to an economic stream like FSW.

You will have to wait for what your ECA result will be officially.
