WOW.

So for people from developing countries you need a LMIA (the new LMO) and it now costs $1,000.

For people from developed countries you just ask for a OWP (like the working holiday but without age limit?)?

This is disappointing. I wish people from developing countries would just say a big f-u to Canada. This is horrible.

Actually,

- People from developing countries: work permit tied to one employer, requires LMIA (the new LMO), LMIA costs $1,000
- People from developed countries: work permit is open, doesn't require LMIA, no mention to age restriction (?)

How will this work for people transitioning from Post Graduation Open Work Permit to a regular Work Permit? Will the nationality of the student determine if he requires a LMIA?

SO, AS OF RIGHT NOW: ANYONE FROM A DEVELOPED COUNTRY CAN APPLY FOR A OWP ?!?!?!?!??!?!

Citizens of countries that have bilateral agreements with Canada (mostly developed countries) will be able to apply for an OWP. The rest of people (who are mostly from developing countries) will have a regular WP, tied to a employer, and which requires a LMIA (the new LMO), the same as TODAY except that the LMIA fee is $1,000 (the LMO fee was $275).

• Cap on low-wage temporary foreign workers
• 1-year LMIA duration
• Reduction in the period that a low-wage temporary foreign worker will be allowed to remain in Canada
All other measures including stronger enforcement and tougher penalties apply to on-farm primary agriculture, SAWP and LCP .

i just want to ask, my friend is a cook in a restaurant and his work permit is expiring in nov 3., will he be affected with the new lmia rule if the employer wants to extend him,
