Dear all

Please i need your help.
I am currently in ottawa canada with a valid study permit and my student visa is about to expire. I need to renew my student visa within canada before i can travel back to my home country saudi arabia. I need your support in guiding me with the application number as well if i can renew it online. the only option that i can see in the TRV that shows "visitor visa"? do my visa consider as a visitor visa or a student visa? though i have a study permit

Thank you
Nidaa

yes visitor visa is what u need. there is nothing called 'student visa'. you have a study permit - now u need a visa. apply online. it will be approved with in a month or so.

Hi Shahabz
i am studying at university of ottawa .. the university consider great you definitely get benefit from it and from its reputation ... one of my friends had a friend who transfer to algonquin college and he said its much easer than university of ottawa .. but here i am at the last semester and it was good ... from the job perspective i have no idea but from my point of view i believe any university with a great reputation and high education standard will surely get you a big chance in applying to any job. am not saying that algonquin is not good , i didn't study there but i think it more to prepare you to work .. this is just my opinion and what if you accept it or not its depend on you ..

thanks nidaa....can u tell me is it easier to get part-time job during studies at ottawa? and can i get PR if i study in ottawa? have u applied for PR?

sorry i have no idea but i believe when you apply for study permit you can apply for work permit also. you may get a job as part time in the campus bookstore. about the PR i did not apply for it so i don't know the process

Nidaa, You can either apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) from Saudi Arabia or at one of the many consulates in USA. You do not need a TRV to live in Canada, you just need it to get in Canada (port of Entry).

Okay.
and what is the cost of living in ottawa like including rent, food, travelling, phone bills, wifi.

Living cost , if you live with a family you can get a room between 600 to 750, if you live in downtown with one bed room unfurnished you can find the range between 1400 and 1700 near ottawa university , and if you want something far you may get something between 1000 and 1200 . food you can find shop from metro, walmart, giant tiger, and others . also you can find expensive restaurant such as the keg . or you can find good price fast food store such as shawirmah king, dominos pizza , mac, the range of food depend on what you want to eat in term of restaurant it may range from 7 to 35 .
Travelling, you can purchase a bus card with monthly fee of less than 100 and if you are a student it will be less than that
taxi rate start at 3.35 i believe. you also can travel to toronto or montreal using the grey hound bus or train with the range of 80 to 100 for 2 way.
phone bills , i used roger it was a bad experience for me and i switch to fido with 64.83 something like that including tax and internet with 2GB data . there also cheaper companies such as mobile city
Wifi, ottawa university provide a free wifi in almost all the campus , am using bill company in home for wifi , i also used to have roger company but i switched to bell company with almost $80

am currently in canada and i would like to apply for TRV within canada before travelling. and i believe that the office is switched from the USA to canada itself. i was asking for the TRV to travel to saudi arabia and coming beck to canada. I know that i don't need the visa to stay in canada but i need it to come back
