I completely forgot to renew my Visa while I was on exchange(I know,i am an idiot). As a result, I could not attend my university for the Fall 2012 semester. I tried to restore my status, which was a mistake, given that I wasn't in Canada at the time, but i did not know that this could only be made when in Canada. The embassy of Paris sadly took almost 2 months to reply to my e-mail enquiries about whether my paperwork was all correct and if they needed anything else(could you please embassy of Canada in Paris get a phone line for all of us European to clarify any doubts quickly and avoid silly mistakes in the paperwork?Or maybe a faster reply to emails). After they told me that i should have requested a NEW study permit, i promptly send the paperwork.

I was expecting to receive the study permit this week, however I did not. Instead I received the medical forms which I had no idea I needed (no mention on checklist IMM 5483). The documents were sent today to the embassy of Paris in France, they should be arriving by Tuesday.
Now my question if anyone knows whether I could possibly fly to Paris to get the permit in hand rather than through mail. This would save some good 4-7 days of waiting for the study permit and it would make all the difference in the world as to whther or not I am able to attend University this Winter semester. As anyone done this and been successful? Also, how long as I taken since you sent the medical examinations till you got the permit back?

Thank you for any reply

I think, as in most canadian embassies abroad, they do not send permits/visa directly to the applicant for pick-up. They will only send your study permit via mail service. You can try to come to their office, but I am afraid they might just ignore your request.

For the waiting time, you may want to refer or check with the canadian embassy in paris on specific waiting time of visa processing. Usually, it takes about 15 working days (upon receiving medical examination results to visa/permit issuance) for them to process it. We can only hope that it doesnt take that much time for you to wait to get your permit.

hope it works out well for you... Good Luck and have a great day!
