New PR Card application process

Hello all

Just to make sure, new immigrants who are applying for the PR Card do not need to prepare the application package with the documents. Is that right? Does the immigration officer at the border prepare for us? What about photos, do we need to take 2 photos along with us?

What other documents other than passport and CoPR do we need to carry with us?

Thank you for your response.

Carry a recent bank statement showing sufficient $$$, that should be it - along with passport and CoPR as you mention.
The officer should now fill out the form for your card; no additional photos should be needed as you will have provided two new ones at the PPR stage I assume.

IF... you got PPR and COPR in 2015; I can foresee you would need new (larger) photos... so in that case would get them just in case.

Good luck!

They did not ask for additional photos at the PPR stage. I got PPR and CoPR in Jan 2016. So does it mean I need to carry 2 additional photos before I land?

Another person on this form said, CIC will use the photos I provided them when I first sent them my application package.

I also have a 11 month child with me. Not sure if his photo need to be provided if not ours(parents).

Thank you

Sorry for the delay, was out this weekend.

That is very odd, the new photo requirement came in Jan 1st. When you applied did you send the newer 70mm photos I don't know if they started asking for them earlier (mine was smaller October 2015)
? Does your COPR (the CIC copy) have a large 70mm photo? If so you should be fine.

Might be worth sending that along with the question about the child as a CSE, I'm just not sure on this sorry :( Anyone else here have any ideas?

No problem. The photos that I sent, and the one on CoPR, were as per the old specs. I have seen people saying on this form that CIC has been asking applicants to send photos with the new specs. I have seen people saying IO does not ask at the border when we land, but will get a request after 1-2 months that we need to send them photos with new specs. Looks like its better to take photos along when we land. But not sure if the IO officer will accept it and send it with our application package. Thank you

Depending upon when you want to land you could raise a CSE and ask them if they want new photos.

That's a risk though, ETA is 4-6 weeks of a reply to CSE (I've been waiting weeks to confirm if they are okay with my different eye colour and height) and they might then want to issue a new COPR which could take a while.

Personally, I'd say if you are landing in < 3 months take them along with you, but get them very late so the stamp will be valid for a while.
If > 3 months you should have time to get a CSE answer.

One other consideration... how quickly do you need your PR card? That's the main risk of just going with it, that your PR card takes 4-5 months instead of 2-3 because they are asking for updated photos and putting you to the back of the list.

I'll be landing there mid April. No time for CSE.

What do you mean when you said "but get them very late so the stamp will be valid for a while"? Did you mean the expiration of the PR?

I do not need the PR card any soon. 6 months to a year later should be fine.

Thank you

I meant get the photos just before you leave. They are valid 6 months so to keep them valid as long as possible after landing.

As you are landing in a few weeks it doesn't really matter, if you were leaving in say July ... you'd get them taken in July, that way they're valid for almost 6 months after landing in case CIC requests them late. Saves a few $$$ to get them taken again and again.

Let us know how it goes, there are likely other people with the old sized photos too.

When I landed earlier this month, the officer took my new 70mm photos and stuck them to the COPR that she kept, peeling off the older, smaller ones. She told me she didn't need more than that one copy, and she told me that if I hadn't offered the photos border control would have accepted my COPR with the old ones and then I'd have received a letter asking for new photos after a couple of months. Seems negligent to me - not to mention completely backwards. I'm astonished that they can't take digital photos on entry.

On a different topic, regarding POF, what did you produce if you had too? Do you have any knowledge of what kind of POF is accepted(like bank statement from a US bank)?

Thank you

The new photos don't even make any sense - the head size specification is exactly the same as the old ones. What the hell kind of procedure is in place that makes the authorities need to see a larger view of my big, manly shoulders and the blank wall behind my head? :(

No one wanted to see my proof of funds. I asked and was told not to bother getting it out.

Just to confirm, photos as in plural? My COPR has a total of one photo, on the CIC copy. My copy has no photo!

Good to know this about new photos though given what I said earlier :)

There were three of us. One photo per CIC copy of the COPR. Our copies also have no photo.
