Hi everyone, So my opt in application had no update nothing on the IRCC but in May, 2023 I did submit an application following the process of the public policy ( Follow the process described here for the application:

My application got approved on July 25th and I received the physical copy today. So if you guys didn’t receive any updates on the opt in I suggest submit the application following this process.

Wait, so is everyone who applied for PGWP extensions not receiving any AORs from the government? Or for all PGWP applications in general?

Hello,
My case is passport renew, address edit. I opted in April 30 and didn’t receive approval until June so I applied for regular application and got approval letter of opt in extension in June 9 so I did withdraw regular application through webform. But I haven’t received physical document after 6 weeks I called IRCC they said will send the new one and I didn’t get anything after 1 week. Does anyone have same situation?

My current PGWP will expire on August 24th, If I don't receive the approval, I will need to apply for a "regular application", I hope I'll receive my PR or the Extsion before they process my "regular application" so I will be able to claim a full refund.

Hello, I would like to know if you finally received your work permit extension or you had to make a new application. Thank you

Hi, I was going through your link, and was wondering if you knew if people whose ORIGINAL PGWP expired in August 2021 were eligible for any extension?

My original expired in Aug 2021, then I got Public Policy extension in 2021 until March 2023.

Now, I'm on implied status cuz I applied for open work permit on Feb 12th 2023, but everyone is confident that my application will be refused.

I still didn't hear anything about it - application is still in process.

Not sure if there's anyway I can continue staying in Canada.

“yes you can! Submit your application right away. Follow the instructions I gave in the previous comment section carefully. You also have to restore your status.” [/QUOTE]

Check the quick facts- it says “The new public policy will allow anyone who was eligible under the 2022 initiative to apply for an open work permit and to restore their status. Instructions on applying will be available on IRCC’s website in the weeks ahead”

But... what about my current, in-progress application that I applied in Feb 12th? Will I get a refund? Also, will I be able to work meanwhile if I re-apply as a restoration applicant? Please, help.

This is my biggest concern - "If you are a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) holder whose work permit expires, or has expired in 2023—or between September 2021, and December 2022—you may be eligible for an additional open work permit of up to 18 months."

I'm genuinely not sure if this timeline is for my original PGWP that expired August 2021 or the work permit I got in 2021's Public Policy extension that expired in March 2023.

Here is another link that says, "A new temporary public policy came into effect on April 6, 2023, and will expire on December 31, 2023. Under this public policy, PGWP holders whose permit expired or will expire between September 20, 2021, and December 31, 2023, will be able to maintain or restore their legal status and obtain an open work permit while in Canada to support themselves and fill labour market needs in Canada."

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/foreign-workers/pgwp.html

I just tried to apply for a new work permit with March 21st, 2023 as an expiration date, and this is what I got.

Your status in Canada expired over 90 days ago.
You cannot apply for restoration of status and are no longer allowed to stay in Canada.

don’t worry about getting any refund. The fact that you submitted an application before your work permit expired is the only reason you are now on implied status so this application is your saviour though this one will get refused surely. You can work as you are on implied status. When you submitted this application you must have received a letter that says you can work until a decision has been made on this application right? So you are authorized by this and also the interim work authorization. When this one will get refused you will lose your status but you can still work with the interim work authorization.

BOTH. Your new work permit says Pgwp pp right? So you are eligible.

You cannot apply for restoration of status and are no longer allowed to stay in Canada.
In this case you need to wait until your application is refused from feb 12th. When that will be refused you will receive a letter that will say that you can restore your status within 90days from this day. In that case you expiry date would the refusal date of feb 12th’s application. Or you can apply for restoration now by putting the estimated date on the letter of authorization from Feb’s application and add a “LOE+all the letters, permit, documents , Interim Work Authorizations” with your application explaining about your implied status and how you have submitted an application before the public policy.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/visitors/implied-status-extending-stay.html

Note that, you will lose your implied status once your 1st application is refused and until you receive an approval from your 2nd application that you will submit. So in that period you can work with April 6th’s interim work authorization but you can’t claim points for express entry for that period only.
If you still have concerns I would suggest you to book a consultation with a Rcic for 30 mins and ask all the questions just to be sure. The consultations usually cost 150cad but it’s worth it. Good luck.

@sairayasmin - I have also applied for extension of my PGWP, and I have got an interim work authorization.

But if I receive a refusal, I can apply for restoration of Work Permit on the day it expires, and buy a few more weeks/months to work in Canada?

Questions:
1: Are you eligible under the public policy?
2: when did you apply for the extension? - Before or after the public policy announcement?
~~ If ans to question 1 is yes and question 2 is before then you will get a refusal but you can submit another application under the public policy along with restoration which will be approved, and you can do it before or after any decision is made on your first application so you should do it now anyway.
~~ If ans to ques 1 is yes and ques 2 is after then your application should not be refused as it’s a public policy. Just make sure you have followed the procedure correctly, i have the link in earlier comments. If you made any mistakes on the form just send a correct form via webform.

~~ If ans to ques 1 is no then you won’t get any extension

now in both cases if your first application is refused you always can apply 2nd time along with restoration. However, The day your first application gets refused you lose your implied/maintained status. If you have the public policy interim work authorization email then you can keep working while you submit another application or another application is already on process, but you will not have any status after the first is refused. Which means for PR, you can’t claim points for the work you do while you’re out of status.

Hey @sairayasmin - thanks for replying. No I'm not covered in public policy. I'm just thinking about ways I can get a little more extension after my application gets refused..any ideas?

Can I apply for the same work permit the second time? Are there any implications? I know I'll get refused again, but I'm trying to buy a little more time (about a month) because my bonus payout($$) is in those dates.
