New Labor Law Regarding Temporary Foreign Workers

Hello everybody! :)

I have two questions and I hope that you could give me some ideas about these matters..

1. I passed my interview and received my work permit to Canada last September 20, 2011, but until now, I am still here in other country due to the nature of my work. I am planning to move to Canada by first week of March. Do you think I will have problem coming to Canada? Will the immigration ask me why did I stay here in my work for almost six months before entering the country? Anyway, the visa that was stamped on my passport will expired on Sept 20, 2012.

2. How will this new labor law regarding temporary foreign workers affects the caregivers? Is it true that since April 11, 2011, caregivers will not be allowed to apply for an open permit/permanent permit to stay and could not bring their family to Canada? Hope somebody could clear these issues..I am having confusions..Thank you so much.

1. They may be suspicious why you chose to wait so long but I have no idea if it will become a problem. How long is your LMO valid? You must start your job while it is still valid.

2. Live-in caregivers can still apply for PR after 2 years of work. However, the processing times are getting longer and longer. It currently takes 18-19 months for a live-in caregiver to get first stage approval and open work permit and it takes 17 months after that to get PR. That means you will be working as a live-in caregiver for 3.5 years before you get the open work permit and it will take you and your family a total of 5 years to get PR and that is if the processing times stay the way they are and don't increase.

December 2011 saw a lot of OWPs for LCP PR applicants (no first stage approval though)

It is written on the document given to me by the Canadian embassy that I have to enter Canada before the validity date of my visa which will be on Sept. 20, 2012.. I am just afraid about what others tell me that the immigration may put me on hold in the airport and send me back to my country of origin..

Hi there! I'm just new here, I don't know how this works? I have a question, my work permit expires on June 2nd, I am planning to have my vacation and go to the Philippines from February 22nd to March 22nd. I'm just wondering because I only have 3 months left for my work permit before it expires, can I still re-enter Canada without being hold or something? or should I ask a letter from my employer that they will renew me or something like that. I almost got the ticket but the agent told me to ask cic or someone, and the ticket is not refundable,she didn't want me to waste money. Hope you can help me. thank you!

You're okay. Let your employer/s know you'd be coming on that day so they can be around in case the Port of Entry Officer calls to verify if they are expecting a foreign worker.

You're okay. Have a valid TRV (multiple entry), valid work permit and your employer's letter stating that they allowed you to have a vacation and is going to work for them when you come back to Canada.
