New Immigrant: Toronto Vs Vancouver

Hi,

I have just received Visa under PR -Federal Skilled Worker Program .

I am confused about the location to live between Toronto and Vancouver (or any other places).

Please share your inputs to help me to make an informed decision based on the following parameters. They are mentioned in order of priority.


1. Climate

2. Earning & Saving Potential
A) Job Availability (I am currently a Salesman/ Account manager and spouse is a GNM nurse.)
B) Salary
C) Cost of living

3. Pollution

4. Govt Administration, Infrastructure, Healthcare and Education.

You and your spouse will be successful in getting suitable job quickly whether you choose Toronto or Vancouver as your final destination. You won't require to go through any professional body registration since your profession is not regulated, however; your spouse is required to take relevant courses and pass an exam before being accepted as professional nurse.

I am based in Vancouver and really liked this place when it comes to comparison with Toronto.

1. Weather: Vancouver wins here. Winter is not harsh as Toronto. Temperature drops down to -5 deg C at the most which is absolutely bearable. If you love outdoors, Spring and Summer are the most beautiful periods in Vancouver to enjoy the most.

2. Salary & Cost of living: both are same as Toronto but the only difference is tax that you pay here. It is
7 %+ 5 % here which is more than Toronto. Two bedroom apartment rent is $ 1,200 to $ 1,500, one bedroom apartment will cost you around $ 1,000 to $1,200. Groceries for two will be $ 500 per month, mobile phone will cost you $35 per month, high speed internet + satellite Tv will be $ 45 to $ 50 per month. Additionally, you have to have commuting expenses in mind and it all depends as to how you would like to go when you first arrive here. Keep $200 to $250 for this in the beginning.

3. Pollution is very low as compare to Toronto. Although, traffic is increasing here which may cause increase in pollution in years to come. There are places in British Columbia where you will feel like fresh at all the time.

4. No different from Toronto when it comes to government, schools, health etc.
