Hello everyone, I am a new visitor and I wanted to thank you for this useful site.
I want to immigrate to Canada but I do not know if iam eligible or not. I am from Kuwait and my parents are over fifty years lod so I know that they are not eligible. But what if I and my family wanted to immigrate under my name because i'm 23 years old. I wanted to know if I can immegrate to Canada to get the Canadian citizenship.
I am an English teacher, I taught 4 years in kindergarden and one year in median school. My mother is a vice-principle of a school, my father is an employee in a travel agency. I would like to know if i can immigrate to canada as a skilled worker.

I have so many questions if you don't mind about immigration, if i am not considered to be a skilled worker, could my mother's uncle, who is a Canadian citizen, be asponser to us in Canada. If not, how can i Immegrate to Canada with my parents and my brothers? can all members of my family get the Canadian citizenship?

and if i had done the IETLS and failed, can i test it again after a while?

if i immegrate to Canada, and then returned to Kuwait, what are the benefits do i get in Kuwait when i have a Canadian citizen ship?
Thanks for you time ...

Your parents are eligible to apply for FSW if one of them has an occupation on the wishlist of 38 or if they can get a job offer but because of their age, they will not get full points for age. If they speak French, they can also look into QSW but there are different requirements.

They can add to their application all of their children who are either under age 22 at the time they apply or if they are older are financially dependent on the parents since before the age of 22 because they are studying or disabled for example. Children who are older than 22 and not financially dependent on the parents have to do their own applications.

If you want to immigrate under your name, you can not put your parents and siblings on your application, only yourself, spouse and kids. After you immigrate, you can sponsor your parents to join you in Canada but siblings you can only sponsor if you are living in AB, SK or MB and then under the provincial nominee program in those provinces. Same with your mothers uncle, he may be able to sponsor her and your dad and any dependent children if he is living in any of those 3 provinces but your parents may be too old for PNP family stream and you might not be related enough, you would have to look into the PNP where he lives if he's in any of those 3 provinces.

It sounds like none of you have jobs on the list of 38 so if you speak french, you might want to look at QSW more than FSW because it's not always easy to get a job offer. The uncle might be able to help.

As for what rights you get in Kuwait with a Canadian citizenship, first of all, why would you bother immigrate to Canada if you want to stay in Kuwait? Second, as far as I know, Canadian citizenship anywhere gives you the right to work, live and study in Canada if you want to.

You can not immigrate to Canada and get citizenship right away. First you get permanent residency, then you have to live in Canada for 3 years before you can apply for citizenship. Getting it processed can take another year, sometimes longer.

Your best friend right now is the CIC official website at http://www.cic.gc.ca/ so go there and read.

Thank you Mr. Leon for your reply.. but to tell you about my reason for immigration is that i'm not kowaiti and i have not got any passport. if you know the situation of the non nationality people or what we call the "Bedoon" then I must bother myself and leave this life because untill this moment, and by the age of 23, I do not have a nationality. so I need a country that gives me my simple human rights to live, work and having a nice home.
My other question is that suppose I immigrated to Canada with my family .. can I after one year tern back to Kuwait for a month and then retern to Canada or this will affect my request of the Canadian citizenship?

and another question about the IETLS if i faild, can i do it again?
and is it true that I should wait for two years until i go to Canada and then I stay another 3 year as a permenent resident?

Thank you again

I have no idea how it works with Canada immigration when you have no nationality. Are you allowed to live and work in Kuwait? How will you travel to Canada without a passport? I don't think that a Canadian PR status or even citizenship will do anything for you in Kuwait. If you immigrate to Canada, why do you want to go back there anyway? Canadian citizens can travel to many countries without a visa but if they want to work somewhere, they need a permit.

If you immigrate to Canada, with or without your family, you need to stay 3 years in a 4 year period before you can apply for citizenship. lf you leave for a month, you delay the time when you can apply by a month.

You can take IELTS as many times as you want. I am not sure what you mean by wanting to wait 2 years before going to Canada. When you get your PR visa, you have a time limit to go there, usually several months before the visa will expire. When you go to Canada to activate your PR status, you can leave again if you need to but to keep PR status, you need to stay in Canada at least 2 years in any 5 year period but you need 3 years in a 4 year period to be able to apply for citizenship.

Thank you for this useful information, I have a passport but the job apportunities in Kuwait is very few and I was wondering that if I have a Canadian citizenship , then my life condition in general will be better.
I did not know from the website wich chances are good for me to immigrate. If my parent's age gives us less point, then in which way can we immigrate? Can we be like refugees?

And about leaving Canada, I meant that if I needed to see someone in Kuwait during my accomodation in Canada, Can I leave at least for one week not a month during my first year or I should complete two years then I can leave? I think my delay will be only for a week !
Thank you so much for your co-operation.

Are you being persecuted in Kuwait? Are you afraid for your life? If not, then you can not apply for refugee status in Canada. Just moving because you don't have good job opportunities is not reason to apply for refugee status. Otherwise everybody would be a refugee.

If you become a permanent resident in Canada, you can go to Kuwait or somewhere else for up to 3 years in a 5 year period without losing your PR status but however long you are gone will delay your citizenship by the same amount. You have to be in Canada for 3 years total before you can apply for citizenship. If you leave for a week, you have to add a week.

Actually I am being persecuted because not having a job is not because that i can't find on but because my country refuses to give me one because of status. Not only me but also my families. I am working in a school but I am afraid that one day, they will tell me to give up my job because of my status. Never mind. I will deal with Kuwait embassy and see what happens.

There is another thing that i wanted to know what are the benifits of the Canadian citizenship? I know that Canada have a hight reputation and good economy but I am going to leave a huge life. I am living in an appartemetn, I have a car and I have a job so as my parents. The thing is that every thing is not for long time. That means that we don't have a secure future. Our jobs are not for long, maybe for two or three years and then we could stay home. The reason for this is that we must have another passport but I think of taking the Canadian because it have so many advantages. The other thing is that I am very afraid to loose every thing in my life. Because we are from Kuwait and Canada have a totally different culture.
If you just could tell me what are the hardest things that I can face overthere. If it was about the money then how can deal with it.
Thanks alot..

If you can get a job in Canada, you can make a life for yourself. Maybe your first job will not be the job you would really like and maybe you will not make big money right away but you can work your way up. When I first came to Canada, I had a small bachelor apartment and no car. After 3 years in Canada I bought a house but not a car yet because it was not a priority for me. Depending on where you live, you can get by without one but I also bought a car in the end.

Re: New immegrant

Hi Leon,

I came across this forum 3 weeks ago and had been reading the issues in the SW/Prof Immigration topics. Surprisingly today, I clicked on the General-All Canadian Immigration topics and one of your responses caught my attention. This was the eye catching response, “Your parents are eligible to apply for FSW if one of them has an occupation on the wishlist of 38 or if they can get a job offer but because of their age, they will not get full points for age.”

Actually I applied for FSW in 2006 . Initial assessment of my application gives me 74 points with English proficiency to the max. (Am preparing for IELTS exam). Education and Experience to the max too having a Masters degree and 20+ years work experience as Bookkeeper/Auditor/Accountant. I just turned 53 last year.

Just this morning in my desperation, I called a family friend in AB to help me find an employer. I presume my occupation is included in the list of 38 qualifying occupations. My family friend told me they can not get a job offer because I am over 45 years old. Is this true?

Tnx.

Cris

I assume that your FSW application is sitting in the queue and should get processed eventually if you wait it out. It depends on where you applied from how long it takes. For the London office it was something like 3 years, for India something like 6 years etc. If you want to try to apply again as an accountant under the new rules (need to have a job on the list of 38 jobs or have a job offer etc.), you could do that, basically a new FSW application under the new system which should be faster.

I have never heard that you can't get a job offer if you are over 45. The only thing I know about is that the Alberta provincial nominee program if you were being sponsored through there by a family member would request you to be under 45. You can find the provincial nominee program in AB at http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/immigrate/employerdriven.html but I see nothing there about age. You can call them and ask.

If you apply a 2nd time for FSW under the new rules, your age at 53 years old will only give you 2 points for age while if you had applied at age 49 or younger, you would get 10 points. At 54 or older, you do not get any points for age anymore.

Hi Leon,

Yes, you’re right. My application is sitting in the queue. Based on the CIC web site, the processing time for my application will take 5 years. This is the very reason I opted to look for an employer to fast track the processing. I don’t like to take chances to apply the 2nd time for FSW under the new rules. I might run out of points with my age.

My family friend might be thinking of AB PNP Family sponsorship. Any suggestion of my options to find an employer so I will be able to apply for AINP-employer Driven Stream? Will online application with phone interview if that’s the only means helps? Have you encountered this kind of application? I have 24/7 access for unlimited calls to North America. Do you think this will be beneficial?

Thanks Leon and other Senior members of this forum for your unfailing commitment to help others by taking time to read and respond to all the queries in a timely manner. You are blessed to be a blessing for others. God bless you.

Cris

You can look for jobs here: http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/

When possible, try to contact the employers directly over the phone rather than just sending CV. If you have a good interview over the phone, you can fax your CV to follow. Tell them you need an arranged employment opinion to speed up your permanent residency application. The employer needs to apply for this at Service Canada.

Thank you Leon for your help. I’ll start looking for jobs in the jobbank website for those employers having contact telephone numbers. Again, thank you. God bless.
