New FSW Finding job

Dear all,

I have applied for FSWP in 2013 in November 2013. My file has been accepted and the lengthy verification process is underway.

My category is 2146 Aerospace Engineer. I hold BE (Aerospace) and MS (Engineering Management), both verified already from WES. I have about 8 years experience in Airline Maintenance & Engineering Department (as an Aircraft Engineer).

I have a sister who lives in Montreal Quebec.

I am looking for my job prospects. The forums say that, the job prospects are not bright for new comers, especially in my field.

I am thinking of doing Project Management Certification (PMP). Also I am planning to get Canadian Engineering License from some province.

I am a flexible person and am not dreaming of having a great job as soon as I land. But would atleast need a job to earn a living for me and my family.

Can you please provide information about whether, I should do PMP Certification and should I start for obtaining Canadian Engineering License before going to Canada. Or what else should I do? What are my options? Should I leave my field of work and branch off to some other field?

Thanks in advance.

You definitely are from a specialized field but engineering in Canada is a regulated profession which mean you can not work as engineer until you get license from the relevant authority. So first you have to familiarize yourself and later go through the process of getting licensed (this may include taking more courses and passing few exams).
PMP is a worthwhile certification in long run but definitely not in early days (I myself is a PMP). No company will risk handing over its budget and resources to a new guy without seeing verifiable local experience in his recent past.
Whether you wanna continue in your field is totally your decision to make but you have to work to make that happen. I would advise you to research and do as much as you can towards your engineering license and know exactly what is required and how much time it's gonna take you to complete that. Once you have that, you'll be in a better position to decide whether you wanna live off you savings during that time (e.g. if you have to take additional courses and exams) or you wanna work. Ask your self what else you can do besides your own field ? No work is ordinary here as long as it is earning a living for you.

Being flexible and realistic definitely help. All the best.
