Hi everyone,

We've been in BC on my husband's work permit since December and it runs out in April. My status and my daughter's are visitors and we have had another baby here, who is a Canadian resident. We don't need visas or temporary resident permits to come to Canada. He has been offered another job with a new employer and we're waiting for the LMO to make a new application from within Canada. The processing time says 53 days for on line so we were thinking of going to a border to leave and come back in so he can start his new job on time in April.

My questions:

1) Does 'the family' need forms to stay or reapply with him? (I read on the current WP that they will use the info form that application for family and I just wanted to check) (my new daughter is not included on that as she was not born -but she doesn't need permission to be in Canada as she is Canadian- this this correct?)

2) do we all need to go to the border with my husband or can he apply and include me and our one daughter?

3) If we get declined at the border, can we enter Canada again on his old permit? It doesn't run out until mid April.

4) If we decide to apply on line and it doesn't arrive in time, can we stay as visitors until the decision is made? I am assuming he can't work though once the permit runs out?

5)on the new form it asks for the document number for the latest Visitor Record of the work permit. What is this? Where can I find it on the WP?

Thanks so much for any help.

Hi,

please find answers below (my answers based on my experience with this process, i did the same for my wife)

1) Does 'the family' need forms to stay or reapply with him? (I read on the current WP that they will use the info form that application for family and I just wanted to check) (my new daughter is not included on that as she was not born -but she doesn't need permission to be in Canada as she is Canadian- this this correct?)
yes exactly, she's a Canadian, but you need and your another daughter.

2) do we all need to go to the border with my husband or can he apply and include me and our one daughter?
you have two options,
1- after your husband get work permit, you can apply online, but this process will take average 2 months.
2- you can go with him, in this case you will save more time

3) If we get declined at the border, can we enter Canada again on his old permit? It doesn't run out until mid April.
if they declined, they can't prevent him to enter canada because he still working with old employer.

4) If we decide to apply on line and it doesn't arrive in time, can we stay as visitors until the decision is made? I am assuming he can't work though once the permit runs out?
yes because your status will be implied.

5)on the new form it asks for the document number for the latest Visitor Record of the work permit. What is this? Where can I find it on the WP?
OFF.FILE.NO: i think this number usually starting with character 'W'

Thank you so much. Just to confirm - there are no family forms to fill out as they have our info logged with the first work permit?

actually i dont know,i hope i can find answer for your question.
please also check if he will need medical exam before going to border http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/medical/medexams-temp.asp
