Hello,

I am newbie here, please pardon me if my questions seem ignorant.

Background:

Age: 31 Years/Married
Citizen: India
Education: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from US (completed 2005) followed by Masters in Computer Science from US (completed 2007)
Work Ex: Since 2008, I have been working with a Swiss bank in New York in the Information Security space as Product Manager on H1-B.
Current Situation: In Jan 2015, I took a transfer with the company in NYC and moved to Mumbai, India for personal reasons. I also let my H1-B expire.
Reason to Immigrate to Canada: Good job opportunities and a nice country to live in (traveled extensively in Canada and I like the country).
Spouse Details: Completed M. Com. in India. Also is a CS (Company Secretary). In the US, she got her CPA certification (Certified Public Accountant). Has a total of 3 years of documented work experience (since she didn't have a work visa in the US, did voluntary jobs).
Spouse Age: 30

We do not know any french, but are very confident that we will do quite well in IELTS (English). I did a quick CRS calculation and scored 450+ (considering average IELTS scores and our professional qualifications).

I had a few questions from you gurus:

1. Our job profiles are vaguely described in NOC 0, A & B. But not very clearly. Is that usual? I guess its hard to find a 1:1 match there?
2. In Mumbai, is there a specific kind of IELTS test one needs to take?
3. I suppose employers in Canada need to be authorized to hire foreign professionals. Is that something I need to check during my phone interviews (I'm talking to a few potential employers)?
4. What is PNP? I am finding myself hard at work trying to unravel the PNP mystery but haven't been able to quite figure that out yet.
5. I found that I am eligible for EE and lets suppose I do get the approval. But what if I don't get the job by the time I have the approval? Can you please shed some light there?
6. Given that our degrees are standard (mine are all US degrees and my wife has a CPA), will we need to get our credentials assessed?
7. Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Regards.

Yes. It is the way Services Canada describes job roles. Any direct correspondence with real-life roles would be accidental.

2. In Mumbai, is there a specific kind of IELTS test one needs to take?

IELTS General. NOT Academic. There are only 2 variants. Take it with British Council - they are reliable.

3. I suppose employers in Canada need to be authorized to hire foreign professionals. Is that something I need to check during my phone interviews (I'm talking to a few potential employers)?

If you are looking at using this route for PR purposes, these employers would need to offer you an LMIA supported job offer. What that means, in a nutshell, is that these employers want you to come into Canada as a foreign professional because no local Canadian or PR is able and/or willing to do that job. Read more here ---> http://www.esdc.gc.ca/eng/jobs/foreign_workers/higher_skilled/permanent/index.shtml

4. What is PNP? I am finding myself hard at work trying to unravel the PNP mystery but haven't been able to quite figure that out yet.

Provincial nomination program. That is a PR stream running in parallel to FSW/CEC/FST. There are EE based PNPs and non EE based PNPs. Read more here ---> http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/provincial/apply-who.asp

5. I found that I am eligible for EE and lets suppose I do get the approval. But what if I don't get the job by the time I have the approval? Can you please shed some light there?

Read more about the EE program on the CIC site. Landing a PR does NOT require you to necessarily have a job offer.

6. Given that our degrees are standard (mine are all US degrees and my wife has a CPA), will we need to get our credentials assessed?

Yes. Any foreign educational credential (acquired outside Canada) has to be assessed.

7. Anything else I should be aware of?

Yes. Read YamPower's post for full understanding of the process ---> http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/express-entry-step-by-step-instructions-t273928.0.html;msg4108507#msg4108507

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Regards.

Thanks a lot.

A side question: I assume we have to send the originals to WES for credential assessment. Is that correct? Isn't there a risk of document loss?

Any help please.
I'm trying to register with job bank but it say I should enter job seeker validation code, I can't seem to find this code. I've checked my CIC message box but can't seem to find it.

Try entering the last 4 digits of your passport.

So I visited one of the local consultants in Mumbai (India) - Anubhav. They seemed knowledgeable, however I dont feel its worth it to spend $1500 on the consulting when I can learn from this forum.

I did setup my IELTS date to November 7th (thats the earliest available) - for both me and my better half.

Question: Is it possible to create an EE profile before the IELTS and ECA scores are available?

secondly, do I need to perform the credential assessment for me and my wife both? Or just myself is enough? Will the assessment for my wife help in bumping the score?

As always, thanks in advance!

You can create the profile but you can't activate it because you can't fill all the details required without completing ECA and IELTS. Recommend that you create and activate the profile after receiving ECA and IELTS results. Check the CRS tool if you are curios about your potential score ---> http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp

Not mandatory. Spouse's ECA can add a maximum of 10 points to the CRS score provided they have an ECA for Masters degree.

As always, thanks in advance!

Thanks mate!

Final question. Lets say, I get an ITA without a job offer and I go on to get a PR. Now as a PR, can I only get a job if the LMIA is present OR can I apply to any job (regardless of LMIA)?

LMIA exists only to protect the interests of citizens and PRs. As a PR, you wouldn't need LMIA approval.

Sorry for the abrupt question: For ECA using WES. Should I get all my degrees evaluated (and does WES charge per degree ie high school certificate, bachelors, masters) or just the latest degree (masters only)?

They charge for every assessment. Assessing just the highest degree would be fine.

Check free provisional assessment before paying ---> https://www.wes.org/ca/preliminary/poe.asp?
