Hi, if you are Canadian citizen you can stay there for any long. But if you are PR you have to be in Canada until process is done. You can visit India for 1-2 months without any issue. But avoid long stay.

I was planning to stay with my wife in india until her application process finishes. I have applied for spousal visa in march 2015. so I think it will take little bit more longer. What are the complications that can arise?
Also, I have another similar question, even on a short trip like 1.5 months, while im there, her application process finishes and she gets ppr, could we come to canada together?
I would really appreciate any answers, its really hard to live far from family for long time.

As a PR holder you are advised to be in Canada while you spousal PR application is in process. Only a citizen is allowed to stay outside by providing strong reasons to come back to Canada once application is done.

You can live with ur wife and there is no issue but keep your trip less than 2 3 months max.

If you remember while filling sponsorship forms there was a column for this " if you are citizen living outside....."

Thanks PGU. But I can see that the file number is a mandatory field while applying for notes. UCI will be optional to enter.
