I did inform my tax accountant to change it however he did not. I presume that since he has not met my wife (as she is yet to get her visa) he has not changed it. If your wife is already there, then I think it may make sense to update the status and this way gain tax credits.

My accountant changed my marital status I got letter in the mail to confirm and give details...so I called CRA and they told me to fax in ur husband's details indicating his world income into CAD of 2013...and that he is not in Canada since ur sponsoring him thats all..

I did and its mandatory to inform CRA as soon as possible, that's how they calculate many available benefits and rebates, although we won't be able to claim any benefit until our spouse lands in Canada.

Usually representatives are not authorized to make that change on your behalf, you can easily do it in CRA-MyAccount (if you have one) or just google "CRA change martial status", fill that form and mail it, doing it over phone is another option.

Nothing wrong with what you have done too.
I did the same when I was married for the 1st time and since that resulted in a higher tax refund it raised red flag in their system and those people came back to me asking for my ex's world income and all that s#$t. I submitted all of them and they finally closed the case.
Since my wife isn't on ground in Canada I would bother about this only next year. The minute CRA does not find something clear which is resulting in a hefty tax refund they raise red gflags and come back hounding you. That's been my observation.

You are corret desi2; however I looked at their form RC65. However that form requires spouse's signature and since my wife is still not landed in Canada, what are my options? besides when I got married I was living in India as an overseas Canadian citizen for a long time. It's only of late that I returned to Canada.

Best option is to call or online through MyAccount, although my friend did using that form and just left that signature column blank. She explained in part3 that spouse is sponsored and not a canadian resident yet. I believe they accepted that.

I don't think its different for overseas citizens, but feel free to call CRA.

How to apply GCMS / ATIP notes.

Only a person who is in Canada can request the notes.
If principal applicant is in Canada, he/she can request for himself and apply for free under Privacy Act.
If sponsor is requesting it on behalf of Principal applicant, you need consent form from PA and $5 fee. You can receive consent form from spouse thru email and upload it. Apply under Access to Information Act.

It takes about 30 days to receive by email. It is a ~30 pages document

Consent form link

Section A - Principal Applicant details
Section B - Sponsor's details

Hi everyone,

Kind of a urgent question since I am applying for PR soon
My wife works in Noida but her family is from Kanpur, we got the PCC from Kanpur but not from Noida. Does she have to get PCC from Noida's local police station as well ? What if she worked and lived in other cities prior as well, does she need to get a PCC from each city/state ?

Thanks,
Hi Aumraiya,

I am also from kanpur and working in noida lives in New Delhi. So u just have to send the PCC from your wife's hometown..

Best of luck for ur future :)

Could I apply for notes myself being a Canadian citizen? I assumed that since the NDVO file has the spouse's UCI number, she has to give consent and you apply after paying the $5 fee.

Also, it has been 31 days toady since i applied for the notes and haven't heard back. any idea where i should contact regarding this? it should have been sent out within 30. I haven't even received any communication mentioning extension or anything else.
