I do agree with you as when you are new to any country you'll go through a cultural shock and lots of other things. In case you have social circle over there in the form of friends or relatives you can easily cope up with those situations. It's not mandatory to have friends over there you can get idea about place by joining forums or groups related to that place.
I agree with you Can4_Visa...for most of the people in the forum they have seen abroad in movies where they only show the good part...they have to understand going for
vacation abroad is completely different from actually living there. in the absence of family members, relatives we need friends we can trust and share. May be india people tells about the relatives living abroad..but somewhere they are not completely wrong...because need a network of people to survive for rest of your lives.
after the first 6 month of honeymoon period...real life will start taking over and then you will need people around you for guidance and support.
