Was referred to this thread from the July 2012 Applicants thread. New member but a long time reader. An outstanding resource for detailed and accurate info!

My story in brief:

I applied for my wife's spousal application on 18-Jul-2012
Received an email acknowledging receipt of my application on 24-Aug-2012
Received a letter confirming that I have met the eligibility requirements for a sponsor and that my file has been forwarded to the New Delhi office for processing on 28-Aug-2012

However, I have not received any further communication from them as to the next steps so it has me a bit worried. Perhaps you chaps (and ladies) can steer me in the right direction ?

What is the approximate wait time for the request for her passport ?
How do they make this request ? Email/ Snail Mail/ Phone ? My address (in Canada) or hers (in India) ?
On average, is it reasonable to expect a successful resolution to the application by the end of the year ?

Just had a long chat with the CIC lady via phone, and they just kept steering me towards the New Delhi Office website. Oh, and please feel free to add my information tot he ongoing spreadsheet.

Dear redivivus,

I have applied on the same date as yours. I got the PP request on 16 Sept. I request u to check the spam, if the mail got transferred there.

Dont worry may be because they send in bulk u wouldnt have recvd it. If they decide on your case they will surely mail you the PP request again.

Regards
Chitra

HI! Friends,
I think this information will be helpful to many who would like to travel back to India from Canada without having a PR card. I got this from CIC when i was in the same situation couple of years back.

New Permanent Resident – No Possibility of Urgent Processing

This message is regarding priority processing of Permanent Resident Card and would like to inform that there is no urgent procedure of processing for new permanent residents. Please contact our Call Centre at 1 888 242-2100 (from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., local time) to obtain the current status of your PR card.

If the card is not ready before your departure, you will have apply for a Travel document (permanent resident abroad) at a Canadian visa office located outside Canada before returning to the country. The application is available on our Web site. You can fill out the application on-line and print it or fill it out by hand. The travel document is only valid for one entry.

Please note that a PR card or travel document is required for all permanent residents returning to Canada on a commercial vehicle (plane, train, boat or bus).

mumble & Chitraajay: Thank you for your replies and advice. The online system only shows 'Application Received ... '.

Submitted an email query via their website but they state a service turnaround of 28 days :O Might as well have not bothered :P

Best of luck to both of you. Hopefully all this heartbreak will soon be a distant memory :)

No letter they just emailed me that the letter was sent on Sep 26

I need your urgent help regarding an important matter:
I want to go to India. I got married in last December and have not added my husband's name in my passport. So is it ok if my passport still says that I am single?? and one more question: I am a Canadian Citizen and don't know how long will it take for my husband to come here. I was thinking about applying for Tourist visa but they are non extendable and valid for 6 months. If I go to India on Tourist visa, then do you think if I will be able to apply for visa again from India??

Please help me I need urgent help.

Thank you and good luck!!
