Hello everyone,

I received my citizenship certificate with errors (last name appearing twice). It was an error on my part infact, I never bothered to correct the name mistake (last name appearing twice) on my COPR, PR Card, so my citizenship certificate had the same issue (last name appearing twice).

I applied for amendment of name on my COPR and got the letter with the amended name now appearing correctly. I also applied for a new citizenship certificate (submitting my original one along with other documents). I know the IRCC website states current processing times for issuing proof of citizenship is 5 months, however since my changes are very minimal ( last name appearing twice), i wanted to know anybody on the forum has any idea, how long will it take for the new citizenship certificate or had to go through some similar experiences?

I have applied for urgent processing as i have a new job offer and travel might be required if need be, so possession of a valid passport is required. I have submitted the offer letter along with my application and a letter of explanation, however I am not sure if IRCC will still process it urgently.

Any info/similar experiences would be appreciated.

Cheers

I have a similar issue with my wife's citizenship certificate (missing a middle name that was left off the PR card, but was present on the COPR document. Did you end up paying the $75 certificate replacement fee? How long did it end up taking you to get the new certificate? I'm debating about requesting urgent processing, but it seems like others in the forum would suggest that it is a good idea if we would like to travel.

Thanks!

If there was an administrative error and the information in the citizenship certificate is wrong, AFAIK, you can go ahead and apply for a replacement certificate and request it to be processed urgently.

In the event that it helps someone else in the future, I followed the instructions here: https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=598&top=5 as directed by the Vancouver office. I did not fill out an application for a citizenship certificate, but rather submitted an explanatory letter and supporting documentation. I marked it urgent on the outside of the envelope and mailed it Xpress Post. I never received any email from IRCC and was largely unable to contact anyone due to the Afghan immigration demands. I did end up receiving the new certificate 10 weeks after I mailed it in. Hope this helps someone. Good luck!
