I posted a summary in another thread. Today was mostly lawyers worried about the wording of the bill, highlighting many of the potential abuses of how it is currently written.

They discussed mostly on "Intent to Reside and Revocation" MPs and Canadian Bar lawyers and few other individual was making their own statements and questions/answers. From Conservative MPs was answering the concerns during discussions.

While everyone opposing the Intent and Revocation clause, Cons MPs was defending their Govt. position. There could be few more meetings/discussions and concerns in May.. Let's see what happens but whatever they do this bill will not be as a law in just few days before summer..

meeting on may 5, monday. seems like they will finish this study b4 summer break. but not sure if they will put a vote on second reading. regardless, they will resume everything in september by then many ppl have already applied.
happy weekend!!!!!

These things take time. And the final bill will have quite a few amendments based on evidence weighed, in-depth discussions, what witnesses say, constitutionality of changes being proposed etc.

For example, if something that is not constitutional is included, it could easily be challenged and the movement of the bill could even be frozen/derailed - until the court gives its verdict. Therefore, this will be carefully debated and controversial clauses that can be challenged in the Supreme Court will only add to the delays/complications - which they would not want, logically speaking.

We have already seen what happened with the Nadon appointment and other SC rulings. The highest court of the land is expected to deliver justice with impartiality - regardless of Cons, NDP, Liberals or whoever.... no messing around there !

Most likely they will spend remaining working days (approx. 30+) before summer closing on debates and discussions and from Sept. will be in real business on the bill. I agree with above post, this cons. govt. will not take risk to hurry onto pass the bill and later face supreme court's intervention to jeopardize their whole agenda.

Harper govt. is now testing people's nerve and level of criticism on the bill and they will probably will come to an consensus to pass the bill sometime end of this year and even allow a grace period for many PRs who is in line of applying early next year..

Also the Ex TFW and international students who are now PRs fighting for consideration of pre-PR time is a biggie.... I think a group representing this category will present at the May 7th session of the Standing Committee on immigration

Alex, thank you so much for your efforts and hard work.
Still watching, so far Taya and Maria's was by far the best: professional, lean and straight to the point. I hope the committee listens to common sense.

Our group testifies in front of the Citizenship and Immigration committee on May,7 2014!

Please join us in congratulating Taya T. and Maria S. who had successfully represented our group in CIMM hearing with regards to Bill C-24. Although they were notified just one hour before the meeting that their speech time had to be cut in half due to scheduling issues, they managed to deliver a clear and convincing message which received broad support from committee members and was unanimously agreed upon by the expert witnesses from the ruling party!

I am unable to see any meetings scheduled in the Parliament web site. Is anyone aware of the next step?
