Hello all,
Please has anyone a clue about how long it takes for CIC to include a new born (outside Canada) on the EE profile once all the papers they required have been sent?
Thanks!

Hi I also have a question about a new born.
I'm Canadian and my Australian/ Canadian partner and I have had a baby in Australia (just over a month old). We are looking at relocation back to Canada at some point soon. I've read some of the threads around this topic already. From what I understand I should go to the Canadian embassy here in Australia and apply for a citizenship card. Then I can apply for a temporary visa that doesn't take long to arrive. This all sounds great. My question is, we can stay in Canada while we wait for citizenship or do we get citizenship when the citizenship card is issued.

Hi

As your child is a Canadian citizen, he needs a Canadian passport to travel to Canada.

You need to apply for a Certificate of Citizenship. Along with that, you apply for a limited validity passport to allow the child to travel to Canada.

Thanks for the quick reply, I don't at this point have any proof that he's Canadian citizen, other then myself and my partner are listed on the Australian birth certificate and it shows where we were born.

Limited validity passport, I'm seeing this on the threads a fair bit. I definitely won't forget it.
We are hoping to retain Australian citizenship/passport for our child

?

As I said, you need to apply concurrently for the Certificate of Citizenship and a limited validity passport.

OK, that's great. One more question, my partner has a Canadian passport and any Australian one. We would like to retain both for our child. Is applying for for one make him ineligible for the other

It's a bit confusing. I feel like when I ask a Canadian, I'm told he is Canadian already and when I ask a Australian I'm told he is Australian... I just want both for

Both Canada and Australia allow dual citizenship although note in recent Australian news not allowed if wanting to be an Australian senator but thats some way in the future of course

Your child is Canadian based on your citizenship and Australian based on your partner plus having been born in Australia so can apply for both passports but will need the Canadian one to enter Canada and would assume although do not know the Australian one to enter Australia.

Hi again. I requested information from the High Commission of Canada here in Australia. They sent me a response that doesn't answer all my questions. If you or someone on this thread can shed some light in my question that would great. Below is my return email to the High Commission of Canada with my questions.

Quick reminder, I'm Canadian. My partner is Australian/Canadian and my son was born here in Australia little over a month ago.

I'm a new father now and I'm going back to Canada in a few weeks to work. My partner and son are staying behind with extended family until this stuff gets sorted out.
It's going to be hard to go back to Canada without my family so if you could humor me with a few more details, it would be immensely appreciated.

The Canadian citizenship application can take up to 12 months it says in your email. Does that mean that my partner and son will have to wait here til that gets processed? It's my hope that my family might return to Canada and wait for citizenship to be done there. I have no idea of the laws and process though. There is lots of information online but it always leaves out pertinent details that can make a huge difference.

My next question is about the limited validity passport. Let's say we do purchase return tickets a couple months from now and we applied for the limited validity passport, what would that look like? How long would it take? I'm sorry to ask hypothetical questions but, it sounds to me that it is possible to have my family come back to Canada earlier then 12 months?

With proof of travel, the passport should be issued within a few weeks or less.

Cool for you that you have people replying to your question on my post, and no one replying to my question.
Your question doesn't have a definitive answer. No one can say for sure. A month, a few months, maybe longer.
