Hello,

I'm a Canadian Citizen and my wife is a PR holder and from India

Recently she went to India while carrying and gave birth to a child in India.

I want to know my options to bring the baby to Canada,

1. I'm planning to sponsor the baby
2. Or should I apply for Citizenship Certificate directly and then apply for Canadian passport? (since I'm a Canadian Citizen)

Which option I'm supposed to do?, please advise

Thanks,

#2 is what you should do. Your child is automatically a Canadian citizen. You need to apply for citizenship certificate for your kid and there is a long delay for that right now. But you may be able to apply for a passport to your kid directly at any consulates in India.

Thanks

You need to take the birth certificate and your citizenship documents.
Fill the proof of citizenship for minors form and fill the passport application for minor and take them to the Canadian Embassy.
They will submit your child citizenship application and will issue him a 1 year passport.
You should receive the citizenship after about 1 year at the Canadian Embassy in India.

No need to rely on OP's testimony. The law is clear.
A baby born outside to a naturalized Canadian or a Canadian born in Canada is a Canadian citizen, and if you are in that situation, you can get your baby his citizenship certificate and Canadian passport.

May be I am not clear on my question.

I would like to know the timeline on how long did it take from applying till Citizenship certificate received.
