You asked us
Q3) How will this affect processing times for applications received before February 27, 2008? Will new applications be processed faster?

The objective is to create a system in which new applications can be dealt with in six to twelve months, not six years.

All those who applied before February 27, 2008, will be processed to a final decision. But it will take some time to process them all. Given the size of the backlog, it cannot be reduced overnight. How long it will take will depend on a number of factors, such as the number of applications that are withdrawn, the number that are processed through referrals to provinces and territories, and the number of immigrants we admit every year within the annual immigration levels plan.

The amendments to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act will stop the backlog from getting any bigger. And with additional resources from the 2008 budget, the Department will introduce measures to help reduce it.

For example, with an additional $109 million over five years, Citizenship and Immigration Canada will hire and train more visa officers to speed up processing in parts of the world where wait times are the longest. In addition, the Department will introduce administrative improvements to free up resources in missions abroad for processing.

We will also be recording occupational information for applications in the current skilled worker backlog, so that CIC can refer applications of interest to the provinces and territories for processing under the Provincial Nominee Program. Taken together, these measures will ensure that applications in the backlog are processed as quickly as possible.

I know they(CIC) are advertising this things in a big way.....................

It is just marketing gimmick.
CIC Policy: If you can not sell immigration in one name change the name and sell (experience class, new law, PNP etc…….)

I simply don’t trust CIC as they write some thing and do some thing different………………

Its system is very autocratic…………………….

They use people and their life…………………

I strongly suggest to new applicant to apply in countries where they can get their money worth like Australia or New Zealand……………

CIC hide many facts from applicants…………………………….

Don’t waste time behind Canadian Immigration………..if CIC don’t care for anybody’s time and life why one should west its time for Canadian Immigration

mhtjy,

You seemed displeased with CIC. However your opinion and experience is not the average feeling on board. You may consider Australia and New Zealand as an alternative to canada but others may not believe in that.

CIC may have lots of backlog but it is still way better than US process.

You may not be happy with the slow process, I am with you on that. But to call the whole thing unworthy is not correct.

Hi there, I agreed with olusolalekan

I did chose for Canada, and believe me... I am so happy to be here... it was not easy, yet not easy...too much stress during the process... but at the end of the journey it worth it, so it depends on what your own expectations are, this forum was created to help those who voluntarily wants to come not to force anyone to pick Canada as destination

God bless Canada for everything I have received since my very first day upon our arrival as immigrant.

Regards
Eduardo

Like Educardo mentioned in the last post, Canadian immigration is by choice and not by force. People who want to immigrate to other countries of the world should do so, but you shoudn not be discouraging people from applying to Canada.
There is backlog everywhere. As more people are being aware of the facts, more people are applying. if an office use to deal with 30 cases a month, now he has to deal with 100 cases a month, so backlog is natural. I am sure they will come up with a better solution soon.

I have heard that process in other countries can take more than 2 years, but I feel myelf lucky as my case got approved in less than 1 year. I guess it also depends from where you are applying.

GOOD LUCK.

Can anyone tell me how long it takes for the regular process of canada PR under skilled worker.

I am in usa and looking for job in unix administration and planning candian PR to apply as soon as possible.

I need to know how to get police certificate in india , sweden (lived 2 years) and in usa (almost 3 year)

I born and raised in India. do we need to take IELTS.

I have a family (wife GC, 1st kid GC and new born us citizen and I am on h1b visa still). I want to apply canada PR only for me. is it good idea as all the IT consulting company are not helping to file green card for me.

Can anyone give some information.

unix admin,

You will have to disclose your family composition even if you do not intend to take them with you to Canada. That is there rule. You will also have to prove that you have made arrangement to cater for immediate family member you are not bringing with you. At the end of the day, it may make sense to actually disclose you are taking them with you. It doesn't affect your chances.

IELTS - There is no rule that clearly says you must take the IELTS. However your language point will be determined by CIC based on evidence you submit to support your language skills. It saves time to do the IELTS upfront because they will ask you to do it within 120 days of sending you the AOR. Sending the IELTS with your original application saves time and ensures the officers bias is eliminated when awarding you points for language ability. 85% of Indians take the test at least since they start asking for it. I am not Indian but have many Desi friends....lol

Police report - I can only tell you something about US police report called FBI report. You go to the nearest police precint office. Get them to take your fingerprints and send the prints with an $18 money order to the FBI address in West Virginia. They will send the report back to you and you will include that in your application. If you put a cover note to the request saying that you need it urgently, they will send it back to you within 2 weeks. I don't know about India and sweden's police reports.

H1b - If your skill is listed as a skill under pressure in Alberta, the AINP program may be the fastest route for you with an H1B. check out www.albertacanada.com for more info.

Good luck

Dear olusolalekan

I just posted the same question a few moments ago in a different thread. And again posting the same about the new laws after 27th Feb 2008.
Will the new applications be treated in the same queue as those which were submitted before 27th feb 2008 or will they be treated separately?

Pls answer at the earliest

Thanks for your suggestion. But when will the priority list come out. In September? Will the list be published? Or will it be internal to CIC only?
