Hi all,

Thanks in advance for helping out.

Case history:
My wife got admission to Seneca College for the Graphic Design (GRA) program, a 3-year program. We plan to file an application for her Study Permit, my Spousal Open Work Permit, and a Visitor Visa for our 6-month-old son. I'm doing this process on my own without dealing with any consultants. Most consultants suggest that the student should go alone and apply for the Spousal Work Permit after a few months, but we don't want to take that route. We want to process the visa for the three of us together or not at all.

We have paid the first-semester tuition fee for the January 2023 intake. The IRCC website says that we should have GIC and proof of full payment of tuition for the applicant’s first year of study. However, most immigration consultants say that we should have the living expenses for the duration of the entire course in our bank account. In our case, that will be CAD 51000 (17000/year) for the three of us. That's a lot of money and has left us perplexed! We can show the funds for the first year (GIC+Tuition) in our bank account but not for three years. I want to take guidance from this group here about our next steps:

- Should we file the application and show the funds that we have (GIC+tuition+some cash) only for the first year? or
- Should we look for a 1-year program from a different college (Seneca doesn't have any 1-year programs for Graphic Design/UX)? Hoping that my wife would get the admission, the funds that we have right now should be sufficient in that case.

If it's the latter, we'll have to take a refund from Seneca after we get the LOA from a different college. While this page has some guidance on how to get a refund, I want to know if there are any issues in getting a refund from one college after getting selected for a different college?

If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.

You can apply for all together but if you want to apply for study permit under SDS category , you are required to show the proof of One year Tuition fee + $10000 in GIC account . And in addition you will be required to show the proof of funds of living expenses for one year for SOWP and child visit visa.
- You dont need to apply for any other college of one year program if you have sufficient funds to support studies for 3 years.
-GIC and One year tuition fee is required to be paid if applying under SDS category.
- Don't forget to submit a strong Letter of support from your side if applying all together
