My husband is a green card holder in the US and we are thinking of
applying for the skill worker programme. He is a CNA currently and will
be a LPN next month. I am out of status in the US; can he still put me on his application as a dependent?
I have a bacholars degree in business administration but he will be the primary applicant.

I would like to know if his career field quaalify for the skill
programme. Also how long will the process take if we apply through
buffalo ? WIll my out of status affect his application? Do we need a lawyer? When do you start to look for employment in canada?

thank you

you can certainly apply as a dependent to your husband. Your status will not affect his application...

I believe nursing careers are in high demand in Canada, especially in BC... (right, BCGuy?)

How long the process will take depends on the new immigration policies being implemented by CIC...

You don't need a lawyer if you can read and understand the instructions properly. They are pretty straight forward, so you can do it yourself. Most of us on this site did it ourselves.

You can start looking for employment whenever!

woooooo! Slow down... Let's take it step by step.

#1: The new immigration policy is supposed to make things faster... that's once they actually start it! Read all about it here: http://cic.gc.ca/english/DEPARTMENT/LAWS-POLICY/IRPA.ASP

#2: Once you've submitted the application, you will receive an AOR: Acknowledgment of Receipt; this has a date which represents the date a file was opened for you, per say.

#3: Yes, you will have to wait for them to send you docs to do your medicals. However, as for the Background checks, depending on which application you used (Simplified or Standard), you may have to send your checks with your application...

Now, I can almost hear you asking which application form to use!! Well, you have to decide that for yourself. Read here: http://cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/menu-outside.asp

Hope that helps....
