Hi there, each application is unique and there may be more involved depending on the circumstances but generally, every applicant goes through the following:
1. complete the forms properly, mail to CIO in Sydney, Nova Scotia. They check that all documents in checklist are included, if so, package is forwarded to the visa office(e.g. CPP-Ottawa) chosen to process the application.
2. At the visa office, an officer begins processing application - checking for eligibility and background, criminal, security checks begin, etc.
3. If you meet eligibility, etc officer sends AOR(acknowledgement of receipt) and medical request or just AOR and medical request later
4. Once medicals are received and if you pass and all is well, they send a passport request
5. Passport sent back with PR visa and COPR(confirmation of permanent residence) document and instructions for landing either inland or at a border

hi your subject should be LEGALLY MARRIED BUT SEPERATED

The topic interests me because i am presently in common law partner ( not legally declared) but i brought my ex husband here in Canada so i can get my son who is of minor age. At present I submitted my application for PR under CEC as Married but with different address . Also submitted my ex husband's application with mine and my sons. I don't know as of now what would be the reply of the CIC. I will keep track of this subject and see the different opinions of agents handling our cases

I'm a little confused... you have an ex-husband(i.e. divorced) and now you are in a common-law relationship with someone new but you still filed the PR application as "married" to your ex?

not divorced with my ex , not legally seperated with my ex (because u need to show proof in black and white , stamped by the court) but still legally married with my ex,,, but presently living with a Canadian ,, but i never declared it in any papers ,,

My status is Legally separated because it's been 3yrs that we're apart and he has no intentions of coming to Canada and we don't have a child. What I will do is declare Legally separated status, attached a declaration of separation letter and a statutory Declaration-Separation of Legal Spouse or Common Law Partners form witnessed by a lawyer (http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eforms/forms/sc-isp-1809(2011-11-15)e_cpp.pdf). I hope this is enough evidence of our separation since I couldn't be able to contact my husband or we're not speaking for so long.

i didn't submit any information from my ex spouse other than the marriage license because he left with our marriage certificate and i left with marriage license. i only submitted what i had on hand and provided a written explanation. i didn't provide any supporting document for being legally separated because it is not in the documents checklist. yea, i inquired about legally separtion supporting documents in these forum and was advised to provide some kind of affidavit but i later changed my mind since there was no mentioned of such documents from the checklist. i only went by the checklist. u have to provide a written explanation and tell them that he's not accompanying u to canada and attach ur marriage certificate, u might also incllude the affidavit if u like. i submitted the additional dependant form too but the information i put down was for my children and my siblings. i only mentioned my ex spouse name and wrote unknown under his address section, then separated under marital status and nothing else. AOR means acknowledgment of receipt and u only get it after ur payment have been cleared. All the best to us.

still on process , i read that ,, even if u are seperated to ur hsband u still need to process his papers because according to them there is a possibility that u will be back to each other , (( eiww )) sounds funny ,, or if not u shud make ur ex make a signed statement with a lawyer that u wont include him on ur application ,

i married twice in the past, first one is divorced and the last one is separated. They won't make me process his papers because he is already a canadian citizen. lol. Gracy, i am still waiting to hear something from CIC, when i called them, last time, they said that AOR was sent to me since september 2012( i never received it). i have also received my GCMS notes and it says that i passed criminality but eligibility have not yet started. I am not sure when it will happen, but hopefully in the next 2 or 3 months. The GCMS notes also said that AOR was sent but didn't received so i guess they made errors on my email address when they sent it probably that's why i never received it. The note also included all sorts of informations like payments made, my children's informations and their UCI numbers, my file numbers( one number started with B and the other one started with E), receipt number, ielts informations, additional documents sent etc. i have sent email to ottawa regarding my aor and now waiting to hear from them.
