Hi there ,

I am a Canadian PR holder living here for 2 years and recently did a 1 day trip to the US through land. I was given a 6 month Multpile entry 1 94 form (Iaslo have a Multiple entry B1/B2 Visa for US). I came back to Canada within 24hrs and the Candian Immigration left the I 94 in the passport . I know i could use that to take more trips and return it back before it expires.

the question is How to canadian immigration know that I am back in 24 hours? there is no stamp on the passport e.t.c . If i return the I 94 back after 5 months , will that day considered as the day I am back in canada and I would loose 5 month on the residency obligation for citizenship???

advance thanks for your advice

Nothing to worry about. Canada and US now share border exit/entrance between them. CBSA can pull up your exit/entrance between Canada/US and see your same day visits.

You won't lose your 5 month period because of your I-94 card. However you do must return the I-94 before the 6 month permit expires. You can do two things. You can flagpole around the US border and return the I-94 at the Canadian side of the border or simply walk in to the Canadian customs side of the CBSA and give the I-94 card there without leaving Canada.

Actually they do. US knows that you are in Canada when Canada share entrance control to US and Canada knows you left Canada to US when US share entrance control to Canada.

Mind you only the border control people knows this. People outside this group usually doesn't know where you have been. They will assume you were in their country but that is not their concern.

They don't have to stamp your passport. They can easily scan your passport without a second thought. They don't swipe your passport in like you do with a credit card. They have scanners now and they can just quickly show the passport. On top of that, if your passport is an ePassport, they get automatically scanned in as you pass your passport to agent. It probably automatically get pulled up.
