I have been admitted to university of alberta way back in january and I have been waiting for results from University of Waterloo and University of Toronto. I applied for thesis based masters in all three in mech dept.

Its been really frustrating waiting for other results so I have decided to go for visa application coming mid may, also I am already done with medical.

I have two questions:

(1) If I apply for student visa now using admission and financial letter from univ of alberta and after sometime if other univs give admits, how easy/difficult is it to go through process for required changes in visa ? If got any idea, please let me know the process and time it takes ?

(2) Since I have already accepted the offer from univ of alberta and there is funding involved, could I be in any kind of trouble declining their offer after 2-3 months?

Please reply if you know anything about above mentioned queries.

Thank you!

HI,
Assuming you wants to change your school after going canada.

(1) If you are changing schools and/or your program of study but remain at the same level (e.g., secondary level), you do not need to modify your study permit.

However, if for example you are a student at the primary school level and you are moving on to secondary school, or if you are a secondary school student and you are moving on to post-secondary studies, or if you are moving from post-secondary studies to secondary studies, you need to submit an application to modify your study permit at the Citizenship and Immigration Canada Case Processing Centre in Vegreville, Alberta

(2) sorry dude. i dont have idea on it.

@Rock

So you are saying if I am going from Univ of Alberta to Univ of Toronto/Waterloo from masters to masters (both thesis based), there would not be any change required on visa ?

But I have heard that your visa will have an university name written on it so if I applied for visa with univ of alberta based docs then its name should be written on visa, right? In which case, is it worthy to say that changes are not required if I change the university later ?

no university names are there over the visa....u can change ur university once in canada

declining university offer after 2-3 months would only give u a loss of application fee and u would have no admission from there

Enthu actually meant Student permit instead of Visa.

It is confirm that the University and Province name is mentioned on your student permit. Secondly one receives the student permit at the destination airport.

Enthu, I have exactly the same question and I was told my Enfield, a senior member, that you can receive your student permit and you can then move to other university without informing CHC. 2 more consultants told me the same that you can change afterwards. I have also found the same mentioned on the FAQ on http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/faq/study/index.asp , please read question number 13.

I am still not sure about it, that is why I am waiting for the LOA from university that I want to join.

@Inam

So you mean, I can simply get a student permit with " issued for univ of alberta" written on it, get in a plane and get down in waterloo or toronto without informing cic ?

Regarding student permit issued at port of entry, is it not necessarily mean if docs for visa application used from uoa then student permit will be issued only in Edmonton airport (where univ is established) or it can be issued at any other airport in canada ?

Because if what you are saying is correct then do I have to first go to Edmonton, get my student permit issued then travel to waterloo/toronto if I want to change my univ ?

Enthu,

To the best of my understanding, You will be required to go to Edmonton first and receive your student permit from there. After receiving your student permit, then you can go to waterloo or toronto.

If you read the question 13 of FAQ, mentioned previously, you will get to know that it mentions "I am already in Canada and have a valid student permit". So I think you will go to edmonton, receive your Student permit and then you will travel to Waterloo or Toronto.
