Hey guys don't post much but frequent forum a lot , so I'm Canadian born and my fiancée is Mexican in Cancun . She is 6.5 months pregnant and we are having the baby in Mexico but need some help on how I get insurance for her while she's there ? And also for when she gets back Canada , she will be moving back Ontario with me and there's a 3 month waiting period for new Ohip from what I understand for new comers to Ontario . So I'll need insurance for her birth in Mexico and few months she here before she has her ohip card . I will be bringing my daughter as soon as possible and filling out the temp passport and birth certificate immediately once she is born , so I should be able bring her back with 2 months from my understanding . Any advice would be great from you guys .

Thanks
Dennis

Do you mean getting insurance for your fiancee, or for your new baby?
While in Mexico, just look at any number of private travel medical insurance companies that can provide coverage. Although since your fiancee is already pregnant, you will not find any product that will cover the costs of pregnancy or delivery.

Once back in Canada both you (depending on how long you've been out of Canada) and baby may need to wait 3 months before getting OHIP. IN the meantime you can get a travel policy to cover you for those 3 months. Can look up some rates and plans here: https://www.kanetix.ca/travel-visitors-to-canada

If your fiancee is not a PR and is only a visitor, she will not be eligible to apply for OHIP.

There might be a problem with that since private coverage is mostly intended for emergency unforseen circumstances i.e broken leg, new sickness etc. You would probably not be able to find something that covers ongoing predictable expenses. Is there any coverage your fiancee can avail on her side since she is Mexican? Local coverage might be more comprehensive and convenient.

As for when you arrive to Canada you might look at Canadian companies instead since the hospitals can bill them directly in case something happens. There's a whole lot to choose from- you can find the list below under new immigrants/returning Canadians category:
