Uh oh.

My fiancee is having a fairly major medical issue (kidneys).

My family doctor (being the nice guy that he is) helped out by seeing her and giving a prescription for antibiotics, but that's all he can do....

It will cost thousands (which we don't have) to get her into the hospital - yeah, that doesn't sound much like Canada, but we checked around, and the lowest price we got was $500 for triage, not inluding any tests or treatment.

She can't leave Canada; we're inland (in Ontario).

Does anyone have any suggestions? We can't find a clinic to go to or anything...

Thank you so much for any tips you're able to provide....

CIC wasn't able to make any suggestions, and yes she's insured, but the condition is pre-existing, unfortunately - so it looks like we're pretty much stuck...

I have asked some medical friends here in Vancouver and all they can suggest is she go back to her Country of Origin and apply for PR from there, whilst being treated.

Seems there is nothing available for a temporary foreign visitor, here in Canada, not even a charity as they need the money for Canadians in need.

I am so sorry this situation has occured but if her illness is that serious then she is best treated back home. Her health is more important than the PR right now, although I know this must be a difficult decision for you to make.

Best of luck.

Thank you for asking around, very much appreciated! That pretty well confirms my suspicions.

It's quite a nerve-wracking thing... all is more or less well for now but then there's the "what if" factor of something getting worse. We don't really want to leave, but you hit the nail on the head with health > PR.

Thank you very much!

...

In other news, no news - which is good news, from what I can gather, from CIC. Getting a little stressful these days, what with the clock ticking down... not long to go, if all goes well
