Hello dear members,

I became a PR a couple of months back and also have the PR card in hand. I am currently staying in mid-west US and planning to move to Calgary, AB in Dec this year. I planned to drive alone but some concerned people in my life does not like the idea of me driving across the border during the winter. And I don't want to sell my car.

I am now in search of some reliable car exporters in US who can take care of this and I can just take a flight. Has anybody had their car exported by professional car exporters in US with no to little hassle?

Any guidance in this matter is much appreciated.

Hi Congratulations on your PR. I used Hansens (https://www.lhf.com/) for my move from Toronto to Saskatchewan and the car reached me safely. Before Moving your car ensure that the loan is cleared and you have the clearance certificate for transport dept from your State. You would have to undergo a Provincial safety inspection in BC. If it is the older car I would suggest to sell off and buy a new one. If the safety inspection fails then you will end up with huge bills for repairing it. I sold my car in the USA before moving to Canada as it was having a loan on it, I wasn't ready to clear it.

I used shipacardirect for domestic moving inside the US and it was a good experience. They are brokers not shippers. Call and ask if they can help with this move

Thank you for sharing. I just contacted them, they only ship within US.
For similar reasons like you, I shipped my vehicle. I used shiplux company. Bcoz the cross border quote was too high, I shipped my vehicle to a US location closer to border and then drove myself across the border. Export (US) & Import (Canada) Paperwork was smooth and painless.
https://www.shiplux.com/

Vehicle was delivered in good condition except for the driver side seat which was dirty. I guess the dirt and sweat came from truck drivers clothes while loading and unloading the vehicle. I would suggest putting a plastic cover similar to ones they use at car service centers.

Before importing the car, make sure you car is listed on the list of vehicle that can be imported in canada and check if your vehicle needs any modifications to comply with RIV requirements. Some modifications may not be possible or might be very expensive.

This is a wonderful idea. Although it is listed under RIV compliant vehicle, I am still unsure of is its admissibility although because of an accident reported by the previous owner and I am second owner. The previous owner just made a scratch to the rear bumper while reversing in a parking lot but was replaced. I have the copy of that bill. CARFAX definitely reported this. That is why I may end up selling the car altogether. Has it already become inadmissible because of not having a flawless record? I am unable to confirm this information. Any suggestion?

I had same problem with my car. Got rear-ended by someone at traffic light. I dont think that makes it inadmissible. Do you know where on RIV website does it say that car is inadmissible after minor repairs. My vehicle is imported, registered & insured in Canada

I was not able to find anything in the RIV website that car is inadmissible after minor repairs. I think as long as the car title is clean, it will be fine.

Update: The quotes that I have received from a couple of car exporters are too costly. I have finally decided to sell my car in the US before flying out to Canada. I went to about half of a dozen of local car dealers just to get an appraisal and was offered reasonable figure. I hope the value does not depreciate too much when I actually sell it before moving to Canada.
