Hello,

this topic is not related to express entry but nobody replied on the International student forum. I hope someone will reply here.
Its case of my friend who is right now in Regina and pursuing Masters. He has almost 4 courses left with project and He has applied for the 1-year leave to University and got the letter of leave from them.

My question is that, his study permit is going to expire in Aug'15 so what he should do? As He is from Pakistan and the process there is quite complex and lengthy for study permit extension.

Second question is that Can he apply for the extension of study permit through Letter of leave from the university as He wont be register in any course.

He can obtain a Post Graduation Work permit (PGWP) and extend his visa

Can't apply PGWP without officially graduated.

Maybe he can apply study permit extension within Canada, provided he has proof that there are courses left to do. Though, I'm not sure if that would work if he extends study deliberately

yes I am also thinking in a way that He has to give some letter to CIC that He has some courses left so on the basis He will get permit.

If he is taking a leave of absence from school, then NO he cannot apply for an extension of his study permit. He will need to apply for another study permit when he is ready to resume his program.

A foreign national who applies for a study permit and receives it on or after June 1, 2014, is required to meet the following conditions:

• they must be enrolled and remain enrolled at a designated learning institution; and
• they must be actively pursuing their course or program of study. This means that study permit holders in Canada must make continuous progress towards completing their program of study.
