Hello Everyone!!

I hope someone here can help me with regards to work permit.

I am a Singaporean and came here to Canada on the 25th October to be with my boyfriend and look for a job. I am on a visitor visa at the moment, staying in Manitoba, Winnipeg.

Thankfully, I managed to find a job and my employer will be going to enrol me in the Employer Portal.

I would like to check what are the chances of getting a work permit if I cross the border to the US and immediately turn back and apply for the work permit and if I can do that, where do I exactly go and what should I bring?

Thank you and I hope someone can help me here! The websites are all too confusing!

Yes my job is LMIA exempted
Okay once your employer submits the LMIA exempt employer form and pay the $230 employer compliance, include the Employment ID number which it will be emailed to your employer after submission and the copy of the receipt payment of $230 along with the work permit application and all necessary fees for a closed work permit which you can find online on the CIC website.

Do note that CSBA has the right to refuse to process your application at the border and will advise you to apply online instead.

Do I need to make any payments at the border? Also, I am not sure which border office to go to (I'm in Winnipeg, Manitoba).

No you make the payments online and then include the receipts with your application. You can google immigration border in MB to find out which border to go to.

Okay thanks, I will try to figure where to make the payment. But however, I am a Singaporean and I needed an eTA to enter Canada, I wonder if that applies and is okay if I try to apply for my work permit at the point of entry? Or I do not qualify?

You should be okay to apply at the border but it depends whether the CBSA officers will process it. As I said before, they can refuse to process your work permit application and will advise you to apply online instead. You should call the border to confirm before you make the drive.
