Hello everyone,

I'm collecting documents for CEC immigration.
I graduated in the midst of recession so my work experience has a combination of part-time, freelance and some full time work.
I was wondering does anyone know any successful cases that include a handful of work places?

thank you very much!

The freelance will not count, because for employment experience to count towards CEC apps you can't be self hired. It doesn't matter that you had some part time and different employers experience, just as long as they add up to 1950 hrs/12months. Another important factor is that they fall into the right skill types, NOC 0, A or B.

Well, it wasn't "self-hired",
I interned with this company, but they didn't hire me full time, just on per-project basis, does this really not count towards the hours?

It doesn't matter the number of different places you worked. But "Freelance" is self-employed, and it will not count. If you were not self-employed (Did you receive a T4 or T4A?) then it is not freelance, perhaps there's a better word to describe it (short term contract?).

really appreciate the reply.

OK, I posted several other questions before, but maybe it's best that I tell my story once, if anyone can give me a general direction as what should I do, that would be great.

I went to school at UWO for a 4 year program, I graduated in October, 2008 and I got a 3 year PGWP.
I start working in March-May 2009 as a graphic designer at a TV station for 2 months (part-time)
Then I worked as a photographic assistant at a photo shop for 5 months from May 2009-Sep 2009 (part-time)
Then I worked as an office assistant at an office for 2 months (part-time) (Although I think this experience doesn't count as Skill 0 A or B)
Then I worked as a multimedia assistant from April 2011 - May 2011(graphic design, video production) for 1 month (full time)
Now I'm working as a graphic designer starting from Oct 2010-now (full-time, but a lot of over-time involved)

I signed up for IELTS test for April 2. I got my official transcript. And I collected several letters from previous employers.
My PGWP expires October 14, 2011. I have been confused as what is the best option for me to get PR residence.

Please guide me through. Much appreciated!

If you received T4s, that generally indicates an employer-employee relationship. If you received a T4A for any of those, that generally indicates that you were self-employed, and that work experience may not count.

It gets fuzzy for occupations like yours where "freelance" is common...

Office assistant is skill level C and will not count...(but you need to include it on your application anyway), but it sounds like you MIGHT have enough experience without it. You will have to carefully count your weeks of employment - 3 of weeks full time (overtime is irrelevant, unfortunately), plus the # of hours of part-time work divided by 37.5 hours (to get the full-time equivalent in weeks).

Sorry Jes I'm not sure of what you mean by overime being irrelevant. If you don't mind please some clarification needed.

Meaning, the requirement is "a minimum of 37.5 hours per week" to be counted as a week of full-time of employment. If you worked 40 hours per week, it is still just one week; you don' t get get to count hours past 37.5 hours per week toward the total of 1950.

This is a matter of confusion for some people, who have had applications rejected because of this...

I'm not saying you were doing this, just saying, be aware...

Ok I think I got that. So what happens in this situation? Assuming I have worked for a period of 12months all together in a total of 2 jobs. First job was 8months but only worked 1199 hrs a couple of unpaid sick days and personal days off resulting in less hours. I spend the next 4 months in a new company, but with overtime worked a cumulative of 760, 640 regular hours and 120 over time hours. Being that it's a cumulative of 12months, does the experience count?

1199/37.5=31.97 weeks (full-time equivalent)

I spend the next 4 months in a new company, but with overtime worked a cumulative of 760, 640 regular hours and 120 over time hours.

Again, overtime is irrelevant. How many WEEKS? 16?

Assuming 16 weeks, you have 16+32 = 48 weeks. So you need 4 more weeks of full time employment before you qualify.

Well, not really - hours must be a MINIMUM of 37.5 to be considered full-time. You count weeks of full-time employment.

Only if it is NOT full-time do you have to count hours...

T4s are required documents, as on the document checklist - benefits are not :)

Read the document checklist -
