Friends,

I am applying for a visitor visa for my brother-in-law from India. Can you please get me the documents I must use for this case? My brother-in-law is not in direct blood relation with my wife. Will it cause any issues? He is working full-time in India but is not married. He was once refused for US visa in 2017 and it was work-related and he could not travel there. Now he wants to visit us in Canada but we are concerned before applying.

Thanks

You can provide an invitation letter saying he will be staying with you and give a brief itinerary. it doesn’t have to be a blood relative. Your brother-in-law needs to provide:

- Funds: bank statements to show that he can afford a visit to Canada (at least 3 months of statements). Length of visit should be so that he is not spending all his funds for a trip.
- Ties to home country: job letter with approved leave, investments, properties, loans (any ties that prove he will return to India since he is single).
- Travel history: must declare US refusal and any other country refusals, any UK, NZ or AUS visas should be provided.
- You and your spouse: in letter you can say if you are PR or citizens, providing your bank statements and NOA may or may not help as he needs to show his own funds.

Has he ever applied to study, work or immigrate anywhere in the world? Has he travelled internationally in the past 5-10 years? Where? Does he have a well paying job in India? When did you and your spouse come to Canada? How did you apply? Are there only 2 siblings in the family? Does his parents have TRVs or PR in Canada? Have they spent time in Canada and for how long? There will likely be concerns that your BIL and your in-laws will want to all come to Canada

Hi, our concern is that they might think he will not want to go back and possibly reject. but he never applied anywhere for any reason except the US for the work related to his company in 2017 but it was denied. Never travelled internationally. Yes, he works for a multinational company and has a well-payed job in India. We are here in Canada since 2016. We came as PRs. He is my wife's cousin. His parents never visited Canada.
