it depends on lots of things...

If you have been living together for more than 12 months, then you could have a look at spousal sponsorship. It doesn't mean that you will be able to get it on time. you can apply outland even if you are already in Canada as it is faster in general.

The current waiting time is 3 months for the first stage ( from when you send your application ) + an additional number of month, depending on where you are from ( which will determine which embassy will be in charge of your file once you have passed the first stage).

I recommend reading on cic website http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp#immigrate to see if it's applicable to you or not, as well as the first post by Leon on this forum, it will give you an overview.

but i repeat - it's a long process, and most likely you will not be done in January. If you are from a visa - exempt country, you could stay on a visitor visa, otherwise you probably would have to leave Canada in January and wait until the process for PR is over.

Best of luck,
Sweden

Tnx for the info sweden, yes weve been living together for more than 1 year now so we are eligible for the sponsorship, if we apply inland cant i ask for a visitor visa before my permit expires?

You can do the medical in Canada or in your home country. Yes they need to be submitted with your application usually. Some places ask for you to wait for the medicals, but in most cases you would need it with your application. What do you mean file no portion? And what is your home country?

On the application kit, there is a request form for medical and on that form there is a portion for a file number, will i just leave it blank?
