need help to apply for work permit

hello i am in Canada as a visitor and i have a fully complete applicationwith (lmo, contract, proper training and certificate etc) i need to apply for my work permit as a live in care giver, but i don't know how to and where to submit my application...i wanna do it on line..and am from jamaica and we have to do biometric...please some one help me...i submit it to the new york office and they return my application...time is running out and i need help

Why don't you call CIC helpline being inside Canada and confirm?

The rules for this are some what vague. Generally you are NOT allowed to apply from a country you are on visit status i.e. less than a year.

The precise wordings stated on CIC website are that you must be residing at the place for at least a year in order to be considered a current resident of that place to apply from there. Even being on student or work visa qualifies for this, but being on visit visa doesn't.

If you simply apply online, that is far much better because they would chose what ever processing office applies based upon evaluating your country of residence. The only issue might be where to do the bio metric scans. In some countries they are still not implemented such as Pakistan (i.e. bio metrics will only be applied some time in December).

So again, i would say call CIC helpline in Canada and apply online. Only confirm where would you go through the bio metrics if at all.

thank you so much.....but when i call the cic office this morning, they are telling me they dont know why the consulate general in new york send the application back...and its not possible to apply online for a work permit in the initial state being here on a visitor status...i have been here over a year now.. so am really confuse... ??? : and they told me that the best option is to mail the application back to jamaica....but my question is this how would they get the biometric done... if its not online...i really need some urget answers

Even being on student or work visa qualifies for this, but being on visit visa doesn't." is wrong, The precise wording for applying for PR is "admitted for at least 1 year"

I did not copy the exact wordings but rather wrote from my memory. Still i don't see the difference. Visitor visa doesn't allow stay of more than six months without renewal or any thing. Hence it has to be another type of visa to be eligible to apply from the place. Doesn't "Admitted for at least a year" give the same meaning?

You are still there on visit status which does not admit for more than 6 months (without applying for extension OR going out and coming back again).

However, applying online would only have two issues 1) Where would you give bio metrics 2) When needed by the embassy, you cannot actually send your passport by post internationally. It is not legal.

I suppose your best bet seems to apply from Jamaica from what i understand so far.
