Hi, I am a Canadian citizen and sponsoring my husband. We got married last year. The question I have is regarding how should I file my taxes for previous year. I need to file taxes for 2013 and 2014. We got married at the end of 2013 and have been living together for last 3 years. The confusion about the whole process is that my husband got out of status due to some unavoidable circumstances. I have already checked that u don't need to have status for applying for inland. My only question is how I go about filing my taxes for the last 2 years. Should I include him when I file my taxes. And is there any tax obligations for him as well even though he is out of status and not working. If anybody can shed some light on it it would highly appreciated. He was on a student permit before being out of status.

You have to list yourself as married on your income tax forms for 2013 and 2014. Your husband does not need to file a return if he did not have any income.

thanks for quick reply. Do they need his SIN number in my tax forms? Coz he doesn't have a SIN card right now and I don't know how to explain it to the tax people that he's out of status

Does anybody have any information about this. I am really worried about getting this done as soon as possible now that I am finally able to make an unavoidable wrong into a right after going through a rough time. I am just trying to get my life back to normal. Believe me sounding all emotional pitch to get sympathy is not the motive here. I just don't know what to do in my situation and I don't have hefty amounts to pay the lawyers. Any help regarding this information will be highly appreciated.
