Hi, I just want to ask the process on how to sponsor a spouse living outside Canada. I am a permanent resident in Canada for 1 yr and 2 months to be exact. However, I am currently in the Philippines for the preparation of my wedding and helping my fiancé in gathering his important documents.

Here are my questions regarding spousal sponsorship and sponsor application:

1. Is it online application or the downloadable sponsor and spouse application forms found in CIC website?

2. My big problem is I resigned from my work because I was not allowed to have a 3 months’ time-off from my previous employer, but they will still allow me to reapply when I return to Canada. Am I still eligible to sponsor my future spouse?
How many months can I submit the application after I get a job again?

3. If I am eligible sponsor, can I bring and submit all the completed spousal application forms and documents together with the sponsor application forms when I return to Canada?

Kindly enlighten me on how are we going to do first and also the process on how to apply for a sponsor and spousal application.

Thank you in advance...

Hi! We also arranged all the requirements needed after our wedding. One problem you may encounter is the marriage certificate. It can take many months for the nso copy but heres what we did. After we received the marriage certificate from the church we brought it to a provincial NSO office for "electronic endorsement". Wait for 10 days but we folowed it up after 5 days in a NSO serbilis center and it was already in their system. It took us less than a week. We did ours at NSO provincial office and NSO serbilis center in Baguio. Just to share :)

The forms you can download from the CIC website. Just download the updated forms.

You are eligible. You can certainly submit your application anytime even though ypu dont have a job at the moment. To be sure ypu can attached a letter stating you will find a job or you will reaply on your old job etc. Income is not a factor in sponsorship approval.

Have your spouse fill up the her forms and double check it together and dont forget she should sign it and put date signed. Bring it to Canada and accomplish forms.for the sponsor. And mail it together. Arrange it acording to the checklist. Mail it to the address provided in the checklist its in CPC mississauga.

Wish you the bedt of luck!!Godbless sa inyo!

Thank you so much for the help toffboss, I really appreciate it. By the way, we're still in the process of securing marriage license and we're still waiting for his copy of decision and finality of nullity of his previous marriage. Hopefully this month we're done with it and we're planning to get married next month.

I have more questions,i did not declare that he is the biological father of my daughter on my mpnp application before, should we include our daughter's name in "Spouse Additional Family Information" form? (Our daughter is also a permanent resident in Canada). After our marriage he will process the papers for paternity acknowledgement.

For the medical result, should we include it in the application kit?

But to sponsor someone outside Canada, you must be a citizen.
PR card holders can only be sponsor if residing inside Canada.
Short trips like 2~3 weeks are allowed.

Quoted from the guide:

If I live outside Canada, may I sponsor?

If you are a Canadian citizen, you may sponsor a spouse, a common-law partner or conjugal partner, or a dependent child who has no children of his or her own. However, you must demonstrate that you will live in Canada when the sponsored person becomes a permanent resident.

Note: Permanent residents residing abroad may not sponsor from outside of Canada. Canadian citizens travelling as tourists are not considered to be residing abroad.

ote that PRs cannot sponsor from outside Canada. They must be living in Canada for the entire duration of the sponsorship process. So as long as you come back to Canada with the the completed forms and mail it from there and stay in Canada, you will be fine.

For you MPMP application, was there a field to list the father of your daughter? And if so, what did you put down?

There was no field to list the father of my daughter but I submitted a sworn statement about the full custody of my daughter since birth but we did not state his name. When my sponsor got interviewed, the officer asked him where's the father of my daughter my sponsor replied he didn't know anything about him.

Thanks in advance...
