Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
I am a Canadian Citizen who is 25 yrs old and has a bachelor of arts degree in Political Science at Carleton University. I have no experience in government type of jobs and dont speak french. Its almost impossible for me to get a job in Ottawa as I need to be billingual. I feel ready to relocate to get a job related to my field and anything more than $40,000 is good for me. My wife is going to be coming very soon from Afghanistan as I have sponsored her and her visa is ready for issuance. My son will be born sometime in February, 2013. Which cities can I get a job with no experience and which city is good to live in cost of living, job related to my field with no experience needed, etc. I think maybe Edmonton is good can anyone give any advice on that or any other city.

Look for the job first. When you find a job, everything else will fall into place. Start looking on job websites. Contact employers and tell them you are ready to come and interview. Try to set up more than one interviews in the same city and neighbouring cities so you can save on travel costs. The prairie provinces are fairly low on cost of living and have less unemployment than anywhere else. However, I have no idea if they are good for people in your field.

Start by looking up various fields where someone with your degree can transfer skills. Most poli sci graduates I know are working as policy analysts in healthcare, immigration, etc. The starting salary is around $45 - 50K for gov't positions. You definitely need some experience or to know people. A few tips based on what a close friend did:
1. be active in your community - I think there are elections this Fall, see if your representative is looking for volunteers. That's a good way to earn some experience, meet some influential people and build your networks. It's also a chance to put the word out that you are looking for work.Carry your CV/resume.
2. Attend career fairs
3. Join associations that cater to your interest
4. Find a job that pays the bills while you pursue your goals.

Are you in touch with any of your university classmates or friends? You can see what they now do and ask for leads to jobs. Goodluck!
