Hello guys..

I landed at Niagara a week ago. Now I want to go to Vegas for a week. I don't have my PR card yet. But I still have my work permit visa (but no work permit, they took my work permit when I did my landing). In the border they told me I can go to US through land not flying.

Is it possible to come in to Canada with my work permit visa??

Any suggestions? I really appreciate any help.

Thanks..

It depends on how you are traveling. If you are traveling commercially (air, bus, etc) then you will need a travel document. I THINK your passport (from anywhere) is acceptable as identification, and they will be able to see your PR landing in the computer, and that the card was issued. You may want to call a CBSA office and verify this.

If you are traveling in your own (or someone else's) private vehicle, your Record of Landing is acceptable. See here.

You can travel to usa BUT only on road by car.The COPR copy which you have can be validated by the cbsa officer upon ur return entry.
You cannot travel though AIR or SHIP or BUS

My personal experience with this...

I landed in Calgary in November 2014 and had not yet received my PR card when I flew home to the UK in mid January 2015.

I flew back to Canada in February 2015 without the PR card and experienced no problems re-entering the country.

When the border officer asked for my PR card, I simply explained it hadn't arrived and handed him my COPR. Presumably he looked me up in the system; in any case he sent me onwards into Canada with no fuss at all.

I assumed it would be like this. As long as you have A passport, acceptable as a form of identification, then they can look you up in the computer and all is well. The article discussing it on CIC website that has been referenced a few times so far would probably be more applicable if you had NO valid travel documents whatsoever (like in the case being discussed in a separate thread where the person involved holds only a Chinese passport and is receiving Canadian citizenship, which, by Chinese law, cancels his Chinese citizenship and immediately invalidates his Chinese passport.)
