Need help for selecting college for further studies

Hello seniors and everyone,

I`m Sekhon, from Malaysia, and I have a few questions. I would like to apply for a university to further my studies in computer hardware and networking.

I`m aged 35 and I have completed my diploma when i was 19, that`s back in 1994. I have been using computer since 1993. I do supervise an internet cafe(since 1998 till now) back here in Malaysia. I have experience in internet(since win 3.1, which was the latest OS from Microsoft back then), I am capable of repairing personal computer too. I am planning to do IELTS soon. I`m guessing i could pass the minimum requirements of most universities in Canada which is 6.0/6.5.

My question is what are the chances of me getting admission in some university in Canada knowing my age is already 35. Am i still under the category of Matured Students?

If anyone has info. about a university that don't have any age limit or not so competitive in student admissions, please do share some information.

There is no age limit in N American educational system, u are encouraged to return to school anytime anywhere! What would u like to study? What is yr budget? Have u taken ILETS or TOEFL? What are yr scores? U are not qualified as a mature student in most unis cause u are not a local canadian or a PR, so u apply as per normal international students. Mature student groups only apply to certain unis. Whats yr budget and where or which province do u prefer? Answer all these questions and i can direct or help u further.

Thank you for replying, most of your questions are answered in my 1st post. About budget i think its about 30k Canadian dollars. I have an aunt in Calgary who is a permanent resident, i will be staying with her.

If u r going to stay with yr aunt in Calgary then u had better choose U of C, and thats probably the only one that can offer u a BS in comp science. There are other colleges in Calgary, like Mt Royal Uni (used to be Mt Royal college), SAIT polytechnic, which is a great polytechnic for those into specialised technical skills, they offer 2 yr Dip programs and few BS programs in technology stuff. Check the websites for more information though. Yr budget of 30K per yr is more than enough for yr tuition fees and expenses. It may even last u 2 yrs or more if u are prepared to work part time on or off campus after 6 mths.

If u have a DIP in comp science or some tech stuff, or engine stuff then u may be able to get some transfer credits but to warn u, U of C does not offer much transfer credits for any school that u come from. So, if u want a good reputable uni, U of Calgary will be yr choice for sure. If u dont want to live in Calgary and pay the higher fees, there are other unis that are more affordable for sure, like Uni of Sk, Uni of Mantioba, Uni of Regina and Uni of Alberta. Of these unis, U of C charges the highest fees of them all, but its still less than colleges and unis in B.C and Ontario, for sure!

So choose wisely and let me know if u need further advice.

There is no age limit to education here. You can pursue education even when you are 80 years old. Just so that you know.

There are a lot of good universities. It is important that you get your admit in a reputed school which will increase your chances of getting a good job.

Here's a list. Do check their website

1.Mcgill University
2.Concordia University
3.Mcmaster university
4.Queens university
5.University of Alberta
6.University of western Ontario

If you are going to choose the first 2 universities, you will be in Montreal. French language can be a problem if you don't speak french as most employers prefer you atleast speak french. These universities operate completely in English medium though. Any province other than Quebec is mostly English.

1. Attested certificate copies; How do i attest my certs. if my college don't exist anymore(closed down due to unknown reasons to me)? Can i get a stamp and signature from a Commissioner of Oath proving it's validity?

2. Anyone knows any university which offers easy admission for international students?

In google you can find many of universities list and also you can find private universities also. You can select that universities as per your course requirement and your field choice.

U will need to have it notarised or verified by an official body, perferably the board of education in your case, since the school no longer exist, to prove that this school actually existed before and also issued the relevant certificates and its recognised by the local government. However, doing this does not guarantee that your certificates or results are 100% accepted as qualifying requirements by the university or college u are applying to. It is all subjected to the university's discretion and admission committe. But that is the most basic and least u must do to show yr previous studies qualifications done.
