@david1697, would you mind sharing your current occupation/field with the forum? In your original post, you mentioned all the professions you are not practicising, but maybe by sharing some details on what you currently do for a living there may be some folks here who can assist based on their experience in your specific area?

Every new immigrant has had their own unique experience in every facet, and for every positive experience, you will hear the negative. However, people might be able to provide a more detailed/directed response if they can anchor themselves to one facet about you (for example, accounting/finance, nursing aide etc).

There are sites such as indeed.ca and jobrapido.ca that gather lots of individual job postings to one place. Also if you are on Linkedin you can see lots of job adverts posted there.

Forgive me for saying so without knowing the extent of your efforts, but I am sure you are aware these sites require frequent visits and appropriate keywords to generate meaningful results.

As an example, I can put process safety in indeed and get totally irrelevant job postings, but if I choose HAZOP, I get postings which are very specific to my field. If I take it one step further and remove Edmonton, AB in location, the number of results (including relevant results) increases quite a bit.

Unless there is a strong preference to focus on the Toronto/Vancouver/Montreal markets, I would suggest more flexibility in locations.

I started searching for jobs two months before landing - in my case I was contacted by three recruiters before I completed my landing, leading to three interviews and one job offer. In all except one case, the recruiters found me via LinkedIn (the third one through monster) - and none were "1st connections" when they had contacted me. Of course, at the time I was adding recruiters left and right on LinkedIn and adding more details on my profile - not the type of networking which typically yields results :)

Have you given your LinkedIn profile a once-over and maybe compared to others whose profile you can view and mimic any improvements?

Again, it comes down to specific skill sets and how flexible one is in moving to parts of the country which you may not consider as your first, second or even third choice, but if things come down to that, please consider all the pros and cons for life in the US (where I am assuming you have permanent status as well, either through green card or citizenship) vs in Canada especially if one moves here with the intention to look for work and is ready to face the challenge of survival jobs while searching.

From your detailed descriptions of your family's current situation, you are not in a situation which necessitates a move - well settled in a middle-class lifestyle in the US is a good place to be - so obviously there has to be strong motivation to move away from that lifestyle and start from scratch and that will remain a personal decision for you and your family.
