I had my Nikkahnama on December 24, 2019 in Pakistan and got married to my wife. It was the first time we had ever met, the union was arranged primarily by our parents and elders on both sides and they had been talking, debating and negotiating for almost 2 months. However i only met the girl for the first time in person on December 24, 2019 and since then have only interacted with her daily via texts on whatsapp and the occasional phone conversations.
Our plan is to file for the spousal sponsorship documents by the middle to the end of February 2020 assuming that the spousal sponsorship process will take around 6-7 months before her immigration visa comes through following which we can have the remaining wedding functions of Mehndi, Shaadi and Ruksatti in December 2020 and then we can both fly together to Canada.
However i have been told by quite a few people that unlike before, Nikkahnama cases are rejected by the immigration authorities and they infact demand that you actually hold all of your official wedding functions and only then apply to sponsor her. They have warned me that if i apply to sponsor her on the basis of the Nikkahnama alone, then i risk my application being turned down, denied which will mean any future sponsorship of my spouse will end up taking even longer in the future and this could create problems.
I am hoping to hear from people who have gone through this process recently so that i can get an accurate picture of how things are off late.
