Hello House,

I am a 38 Year Old Single Male Nigerian, i am planning to visit toronto, Canada on a 8 days vacation. I've downloaded the forms and filled for submission. I have made my hotel reservation and packaged all my documentation. As i am gainfully employed in Nigeria, i have recieved a letter of introduction from my company who will also pay part of my Holiday expenses,(an economy class return ticket and 750 dollars for miscellaneous) however , i had applied for the Federal Skilled Worker Program in 2009 but rejected as my profession had been removed from the list of eligible professions.

I just like to know what my chances are regarding the visa approval. I have travelled to Paris, France and Manchester,UK within the last three years.

Appreciate an honest guidance on this.

Can you show any additional ties to Nigeria? (Other than a letter from your employer.) Right now you don't seem to have much proof of ties to your home country.

How much of a bank balance are you showing to prove you can fund your trip here? Ideally you should be able to show at least a few thousand. $750 won't even cover 8 nights in a Toronto hotel.

I think the purpose of your trip might be questioned. You're traveling very far just to spend 8 days here.

Difficult to say what your chances are...

I have about 20,000 USD in two Bank accounts i operate. Like i said earlier, my company is paying for an economy class return ticket and they will also give me 750 USD for miscellaneous expenses. I have been on similar 9 days and 6 days trips to Paris and Manchester before in the past with proofs of hotel booking and reciepts/ fight tickets for the trips.

I have about 12000 USD as pension savings, although i do not fully own a parcel of land but i have a purchase proof (staggerd payment) on a parcel of land. My Monthly salary is about 2,300 USD, i just like to be sure what my chances are on this before i put in my application.

Thanks for candid advice.

I think you chances are same as any normal visit visa application. Nothing too strong and nothing too week.

Your biggest plus - > travel history
Your biggest minus -> immigration attempt.

If i was a visa officer, i would doubt your intention as a genuine visitor, knowing the fact that you attempted to move permanently in Canada.

The question that hits me is, why is your employer partially funding your trip? I am wondering if this could actually be another TIE??? Why would an employer pay for an employee's trip? Would you not be expected to return to work even more because of that? Is this trip also for business purposes? Can you give us more details of the itinerary/reason for your trip as we might be able to give you more suggestions.

Hello Pippin,

I am entitled to an Economy Class Return ticket to any country of my choice with 750 USD as accomodation subsidy as part of my annual renumeration. This is as per my company's annual passage policy for the cadre of staff i belong (some cadre's are fully funded). i dont get paid overtime even when i sometimes work beyond my official work hours (reason for this compensation).

I have enjoyed this package to go on vacation to Paris and Manchester before. The trip is not for business, its strictly leisure so i'll just be visiting places and do some shopping from my purse.

With my air fare covered with additional 750 USD, it makes the vacation cheaper for me.

Hope the picture is clearer now.
