Need advise for areas to settle with good public schools and nice neighbourhood.

New to the forum, and would land in May with my family in Toronto.I need some advise for settling in good neighbourhoods.Highly appreciate the help.Clueless where to begin from.
my son is 9yr old and my daughter will be 6 in April.Hubby, has to find a job once he lands with us.He is a banker here in middle east.

I defer to others, I am based in Ottawa.

Baloo...wish I was fluent in French to settle in Ottawa.specifically, my hubby.if French is not strong with u, I guess it takes more time to settle in Ottawa.

You do not have to be fluent in French to live here.
Some jobs require bilingualism (usually government jobs), but not all.
77% of Ottawa's population speak English at home, while 11 percent speak French.

Of course immigrants can get free official language training.

Settling in Ottawa was not hard for me (my spoken French is not wonderful - but I survive), my wife is from Quebec and is fully bi-lingual.
Ottawa is a great place to live, there is plenty to do, very enjoyable (average salaries are quite high).
The job market is very government orientated.
At present, unemployment numbers are rising, and with the Federal government starting cutbacks there are going to be more people who will not have work.

That is likely to be an issue in many places, not just Ottawa

North York is a very good neighborhood and have had the highest growth in GTA in the past few years.The crime rate is low,there are quality schools,shopping malls.It's a family neighborhood with lots of immigrants from around the world.You won't feel out of place there.Let me know if you need any help with finding a place.I'm a real estate agent.

There is a support group on facebook called "Surrogate family". It's a support group for information and resource exchange in everyday life necessities. There is no limit,you can exchange information/enquirers bout job,car,housing,city info,events,babysitting,pet sitting and ....

People are supper helpfull and you can start making friends.

I emigrated to Canada, with young children, ten years ago and still reside in the GTA - it is a super place to live with young children! My wife is a teacher here and so we are very familiar with the schooling system here. I am now a real estate agent and help people either rent or buy their perfect home in the GTA! Whilst my clients are mostly Canadian I have recently worked with a number of Brits and this is where I hope to specialise - it is very fun helping new immigrants to find their perfect home/area to live! Realtors in Canada are paid by either the landlord (renter) or seller (buying a home), and so their advice/support is entirely free to you.

There are so many factors in finding a perfect home, either rental or purchase. The GTA is large and transport/commuting can be difficult so a large factor is going to be determined by work place, and then another deciding factor is rental/purchase price - this can vary significantly as you get further away from the downtown core. I have recently found homes for newcomers to the area in Milton and Acton, beautiful family oriented areas just outside Brampton, but they were not tied to a workplace. They had just a week in Ontario and by working together prior to travelling and then intensly through that week we were able to find the perfect property and secure an offer.
